I will not adopt or accept any sort of militant "Not my President" attitude that had plagued the last 8 years.
He actively worked to ensure that by seeking to divide the people of this country whenever possible, as no president for a very long time has done.  Bush and Cheney have disrespected the American people and our country; they deserve no respect.

Whoever wins tomorrow will set us back on the right course and will work, I am sure, to the the president of the whole country.
Ok, this is what I'm talking about.

Yeah, and so am I.  Bush doesn't deserve respect; Obama or McCain most likely will.  That's all.

I don't care if you don't think he deserves respect. We don't pick and choose who we acknowledge as our personal President. Stop acting like a child.

I don't much care for your self-righteous attitude, either.

The best part about people calling others self righteous? They're usually acting just as self righteous.

Of course Bush did all of the dividing while you and your kind made every attempt to unite people.

While I disagree with Obama on many issues, I hope and pray that he is able to unite this country in a time we most desparately need it. I hope Dems will be willing to reach across the aisle, as it will most likely be a decade or more before the GOP controlls any of the three branches again.

Why would they do that? If you go to step across the aisle the liberals will break your leg and if you reach your arm across the aisle they'll break your arm. Why the hell do you really believe they'll do anything to "unite" the parties? They'll have complete control of the government so they can use their yes man in the White House to push through their destructive socialist agenda. That said, I wish Obama the best of health but I hope his agenda fails miserably as does his presidency.

I wanted to do a big post expressing how I feel and how we all ought to act but I don't have time. I'm getting a bunch of things together for tomorrow including a way to inform people that my polling place was moved to the other side of the college campus where I vote. I got word of this just a few hours ago. What a disaster.

Anyway, we all need to remember that no matter how partisan we may get and how we may hope that the other side is either destroyed or fails miserably, we do this for our country and for the American people.

Let's keep this as civil as possible, folks, and work to make things better. We owe it to too many people.

Well said Phil.

Anyone with any knowledge of both history and the world around us must know what an astonishing thing our Western democracy is.The fact that a political group will voluntarily give up power to another group holding a contrary view is truly miraculous.

I know it's a cliche but we often forget how many people have died over the centuries in order that we have this right which we take so much for granted.
