A different sort of change might be about to come to the Kentucky House; in a totally-not-expected-move, Greg Stumbo is trying to oust Jody Richards as Speaker.

How many remaining state legislatures have never been held by one of the major parties?

Minnesota Senate has never been Republican though the state leg only started being elected on a partisan basis in the 70s.

It was Nebraska-style (but bicameral) before?

Im pretty sure the Wyoming and Utah legislatures were never held by Democrats or the Alabama, Louisiana or Arkansas legislatures by Republicans.

or the Alabama, Louisiana or Arkansas legislatures by Republicans.

They almost surely would have been during Reconstruction.

Utah has been, most definitely -- in the early days of the state, the Mormons would vote however the Church told them to, and at one point it supported the Democrats.

Yes.

Was it changed in a referendum?

Stumbo won by three votes in a closed Democrats-only meeting. An amusing headline;

"Richards says he's not the "super counter" he thought he was"
