Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

This attitude may make this a very close race and maybe even a Lonegan win. If what I posted above is true, this is going to be a bad night.

I would not extrapolate anything from my father's comments. To the best of my knowledge, he has never voted in any Republican primary, state or Presidential, despite having his preferences. My stepmother is an independent in every sense of the word, too. She'll probably vote against Corzine this fall. I still don't know how she voted last year... in October she was torn because of doubts over both Obama's lack of experience and the flaws of the McCain-Palin ticket, and was sick to death of her daughter nagging her to support Obama and getting angry that she wouldn't.

Word is that turnout (so far) is the lowest it has ever been in an NJ Gubernatorial primary in 25 years.

I don't think it's an unequivocally bad sign for Christie. Primary turnout has been high in the past because multiple institutional candidates were running or you had Bret Schundler with his movement behind him. This is a race with only 1 top-tier candidate and one gadfly. I do question how strong Lonegan's support is in either a low or high turnout election.

Their attitude that Christie is going to win anyway so they don't need to show up is alarming. Look at the reports of very low turnout. If this stuff is true - if this is really the lowest turnout we'll see in 25 years - Christie is in trouble.

It is, if other people hold that attitude. In retrospect, I misrepresented what they said, because I know they never "show up" anyway. I was probing on his views and interest, and while he said he knows Christie is going to win, that knowledge isn't dissuading him from voting because he doesn't participate in primaries.

Get down off the ledge. Smiley Lonegan could win, I don't know, but my father's views are not indicative of that.

Republicans actually work during the day. I'm sure it will pick up at night.

They just mentioned the primary on the news. It got a minute of coverage. No more.

Well, there's some horrible weather creeping through Atlantic county right now. The machine is strongly behind Christie down there. They better get their people out despite the storms.

As soon as I got out of the polling place, the skies opened up and it went to hell in a handbasket. It was gone within 30 minutes though. I'm sure it won't affect turnout.

Have you seen where actually the Lonegan camp is hoping for higher turnout? They said less than 300,000 voters and they lose. If it's closer to 400,000 they win.

Eh, Action News had some very violent storms over major parts of Atlantic county right around 5 o'clock. Not good.

Yes, it is currently clear. All of the storms have moved off the coast.

For the record, there was no one but poll workers at the voting booths when the wife and I voted this morning. At 7:15, we were voters three and four! (Polls had been open for an hour and fifteen minutes.)

Then again, I would be shocked if there were a triple-digit number of votes from my election district in the Republican primary anyway. It was 89% Obama.

Oh. My. God.

State Senator Joe Kyrillos (Christie campaign chair) just said there were two and a half hours left to vote. Oh, Christ.

Maybe he just misspoke.

Or he's just an idiot.

He clearly misspoke (said it twice, too) and it was a very idiotic mistake. You're the Christie campaign chair. You know low turnout is a serious problem. Chris has been saying so for awhile now. You've been telling people to get out to vote all day. You go on live TV and then get the time the polls are closing wrong...twice. What a facepalm moment.

Fox News has Campaign Carl Cameron at the Christie party tonight. I doubt the other stations are covering it.

I think the following comment from Nick Lento, at Blue Jersey hists the nail on the head:

Prosecuting corruption in New Jersey (with all the resources/ powers at the disposal of a federal prosecutor) is about as hard to do as giving out speeding tickets on Route 80.
If Christie were truly serious about doing his job with integrity he could have had 20 times as many convictions as he did.

As it is, he picked at the "low hanging (rotten) fruit" and didn't make himself any real enemies amongst the rich and powerful interests that run New Jersey politics.

This "Bush Bum" must not be allowed to take over our state.
