He'll be 90+ years old but I don't see any reason why not

If he wants it, of course he'll be re-elected!

Hopefully he'll retire in 2014, although I am happy he ran again in 2008.

Has Rush Holt any interest in a Senate seat?  I ask out of pure ignorance of New Jersey politics. All I know about New Jersey politics is...

Torricelli -- crooked
Lautenberg -- old
Bradley -- tall
Whitman -- disaffected
McGreevey -- gay
Kean -- moderate

Yes he has, and he'd be my first pick. Although I think he'd have a tough time in the rough and tumble world of a NJ Democratic primary.

AGREED!  It seems like most political powers that be in the entire mid-Atlantic simply don't get it in either party.

Aye. His geographic base just isn't as strong as someone from North Jersey, and only about the same as that of someone from South Jersey, nor do I think he's really up for the negative campaigning typical of NJ Democratic primaries.

He'll probably have kicked the bucket by that point.. but that wont stop the Dems from nominating him, and Jersey from electing him.

Obviously the worst thing about Lautenberg winning is the fact that we have to hear you whining about him for the next six years.

Johnny,

I have to say, that is probably my second-biggest gripe about this forum.  (The first being the presence of a couple of completely racist miscreants who offer nothing in the way of helpful information or opinion.  Ever.)

What I mean is -- not that complaints about Lautenberg or anyone else are wrong.  They may be spot-on.  But not all of us know why Poster A has a beef with Senator B.  Or why Poster C hates Governor D so much.

Yeah, we can pretty much figure out that people who hate GWB do so for the same reason that 50 million other Americans and a lot of talking heads do.  And we know why so many people loathe Ted Kennedy and Barack Obama.  National prominence makes that clear...

But when you guys say "Herb Kohl is a moron", "George Voinovich is a creep", "Lautenberg is a crook" or "Warner is an arse-hole"...please for the love of God tell us why.

So I'll ask -- what is wrong with Lautenberg?  Is it that he is senile?  Is he the Democratic Jim Bunning?

Wow. Do we really agree on a race (especially on someone who would run for the Democratic nomination)?

In my own semi-professional opinion, yes, he is getting old enough such that he isn't as sharp as he used to be, and further, he's just plain mean spirited.  He's gotten into fights with everyone, including a very infamous closed-door shouting match where Bob Torricelli threated to cut off his balls.

Plus, I think he completely botched his re-entry into politics in 2002 to the detriment of New Jersey.

Has Rush Holt any interest in a Senate seat?  I ask out of pure ignorance of New Jersey politics. All I know about New Jersey politics is...

All of New Jersey's Dem congressmen are interested in a Senate seat. Rush Holt would have a tough go at it, because his base—Hunterdon, Mercer, and Monmouth—isn't especially key in a Democratic primary.

I think the more important question is will Lautneberg be alive in 2014?  Even if he is alive I don't think he'll want to run.
