I know I'm going to get a lot of "LOL"s, but what do you guys think the odds of Jeff Flake being on the ticket in 2012 are?

He's relatively young, attractive, articulate, principled, and (to borrow from Biden) clean.

Thoughts?

Seems good, but he's a Mormon.

Isn't he kind of a single-issue candidate?  And the GOP already tried the earmark-busting deficit-hawk from Arizona thing.

He comes off as a single issue candidate, but there is more there; plus, it's an important issue. As for being Mormon: yeah, that could be a problem. I don't know, I just really like the guy, and I think he could do a lot for the party. He embodies what the future of the GOP needs to, but probably won't, be.

Well he's not that well-liked by the GOP establishment, is he?  And he doesn't even have any Congressional leadership experience, eh?

I mean, I'd be psyched to see it, I'm not hatin', but I don't see it.

The GOP establishment is dead. Hopefully from the ashes of the phoenix men like Mike Pence and Jeff Flake emerge.

I don't know, this is just wishful thinking, I guess. I'm sad now.

I'd love to see it, but it's not going to happen.

How are Pence and Flake any different? They are still ideologues that cannot win on the national level. Go ahead. Make folks like that the new Republican party. Maybe they are "pure" now, but watch out. Their belief that the government should be outsourced to the Fortune 500s and the Catholic Church will change that.

It's not that they want the government outsouced to Fortune 500s, but that they don't want Fortune 500s outsourced to the the government.

Pence could be a wolf in sheep's clothing, but he's certainly better than Boehner.

I think Flake's the real deal.

Idealism and pragmatism are not mutually exclusive, despite what we have been lead to believe.

He should run for Governor in 2010, and run for President in 2016.

That's the path I see as well.

John McCain always told that bad joke about how Arizona is the one state where mothers can't tell their children that they can grow up to be President.

Maybe he'll go for McCain's seat if Shadegg doesn't want it.
