Were Vice President-elects Al Gore, Dan Quayle, George Bush, Walter Mondale, Spiro Agnew, etc. doing anything more notable than Biden at this point during their respective transition periods?
Excellent question and perhaps a great point.
I think it's noticeable to many because I really don't hear anyone disagreeing with the fact he was hidden in the last couple weeks of the campaign and perhaps that is what is more notable.

I'll disagree. Biden appeared at rallies every day during the last week of the campaign and 3/4 of the days during the two weeks before that.
