We have no way of knowing that what we see is objectively true. We just know that we think they're true. We have no choice but to accept these things, but we always must remain aware that other interpretations are possible & that those that we hold are by no means objective.

Congratulations, though. You have stumbled upon the underlying thesis of the Continental school of philosophy. Don't feel bad if you don't understand everything I just said.

doesn't matter; doesn't matter; doesn't matter

in 'The Sun Also Rises' there is this great paragraph, that is basically a stream of conscious thought by Jake Barnes, which which he basically states the entire theme of what Hemingway has ever written.  in a paraphrased nutshell: stop worrying about what 'it' is and learn to live in 'it.'  religion is just a sedative for those who can't accept that there is a very decent shot we have no objective purpose or reason for existing.

what do you mean it does not matter. It takes away what we were born to do. WONDER. If  we don't wonder then we don't learn anything new or interesting and our economy never grows. Also humans as a species would never evolve.

no economic growth can be attributed to existential crisis.  but this thread is probably a waste of my time.  not that my time means anything, come to think of it, so I'll stick around.

I was talking about things slightly more philosophical than that. However, I am reasonably certain that the chair I am sitting on exists. I am not absolutely certain though. For all I know, it could be a sophisticated hologram generated by aliens.

The point is that it doesn't matter. I believe that it's a chair. I don't know that that's metaphysically true, but I don't need to. Everyone else in the world could be an android for all I know. However, as long as I believe that they're organic & they lead me to believe I'm right, it isn't important.

Hey now, I downgraded the Durden/Hemingway shtick from 'hilarious' to 'funnier than it should be.'  Give some reverence.

Okay. Well, if two people view the same event differently, sure, that's an example of what I'm talking about. Actually, you should watch Rashomon.

We can't be sure that things exist, we can't be sure they don't exist. To shorten it: everything's a maybe, and the way we interpret maybes can be different.

Now start thinking about whether or not you exist Wink

I already did that. As matter of fact I do exist. if you take a microscope and took as my cells they are there. but then why does everyone call a table a table if our perceptions are diffrent?

Also are our thoughts real if they are not one of the five senses?

Sweetheart, don't dwell on these things.  Life may have meaning and then it may not.

If you enjoy it, then it matter either way.
