I think the issue of prisoner welfare is a hideously under-appreciated one.

Prison is a punishment, but it's presumed that most will not be there for the rest of their lives. So the realities of prison-life is violence, rape, drug abuse and more. We send people to prison often because they have committed crimes and deserve to be there, however, many of these people are damaged, that doesnt excuse their crimes, but it should come into our reasoning. So how does it benefit society to have a damaged person go into an environment, only to come out 10x more maladjusted than before.

If you were constantly under the threat of, or even exposed to beatings, rapes, murders - rampant drug abuse. You think you'd come out unscathed?

There needs to be a GREATER effort on the part of governments at all levels to accept that just because a person is in prison, it somehow doesnt mean that they still dont have fundamental rights as human beings. That means tougher controls of what goes in and out of prisons, a crack-down on in-prison corruption, more stringent and thorough mental-health programs AND increased watchdog status over private prisons, up to and including government take-overs for any prisons which are seriously lacking in any way.

I also think the Age of Criminal responsibility Act before the Senate is turning into an utter pig's-breakfast.

I fail to locate any proof that any of the countries listed (besides Atlasia) ever actually joined the GTO.

What should be the next drug that we legalize? You've already gotten LSD, & tried to get Heroin.

Not 100% sure if cocaine is legal, don't think so.  Perhaps just repeal the Controlled Substances Act

That would be too hard to pass. I want most drugs legal, though I'm wary of legalizing things like PCP.

The Psychotropic Substances amendment of the Controlled Substances Act should be repealed at least. Pulling out of the UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances and Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, so that we can set our own national drug policy independent of international obligations, should also be considered.

Question Porce. How many of those behind bars are there for now-legalized substances?

I believe that when we have passed legalization or decriminalization bills, we have also allowed for commuting the sentences of those in jail for said crimes in the bills.

While I agree that prisons need to be thinned out a bit (non-voilents shouldn't be mixed with the violent ones and there needs to be a lot less non-violents in the system), the murder and rape rates in prison aren't as high as the general population thinks they are.  It varies greatly by prison, but for the most part, most prisoners aren't under constant threat of death and anal rape.

Well yes.

Prison is still a potentially dangerous place where terrible things do happen.

But the fundamental issues remain.

*Reduce imprisonment for non-violent/victimless crimes
*Reduce mixing of violent/non-violent inmates
*More support to make sure inmates have as much of a chance outisde as possible.

Yeah well, I don't.

And if you want some realism in the game - if you want some way open for the game to evolve, really - you better don't assume that on any foreign events either. Smiley

When should we institute impeachment proceedings?

Actually, come to think off it, no mod is infinitely better than a resourceful idiot mod (not that Porce is that. But who knows what we'd get?)

The Daily Grind
Edition 2, December 20, 2008

King of the Bench Press found dead
Nyman, DC -- Nyman Police have identified a body found in a warehouse as King of the Bench Press, former Governor of the Southeast. The body was found on December 14th. An autopsy has determined a time of death--early in the morning of December 10th. He was shot three times in the back and is believed to have been running from someone when he was killed.

King of the Bench Press was last seen the night before at a party attended by all three justices of the Supreme Court. He reportedly left the party shortly before midnight and was not seen by anyone again. Until recently, he had not been seen for weeks. It is still unknown where he was during this time.
Will there be an investigation?  I mean a real one (atlasia style..not "real" real), not a cover up by TPTB.
