My parents have voted republican since the 80's. So has my whole extended family, with only my crazy Auntie ever defecting when she voted for Perot twice. My family's weird in that each branch represents a different kind of Republican: my father's side are all Southern Baptist fundies, my mothers side are all New England liberal Republicans, and my immediate family are the business/establishment group. But they're all Republican.

My Mom:
1984: Reagan (R)
1988: Bush (R)
1992: Bush (R)
1996: Clinton (D)
2000: Bush (R)
2004: Bush (R)
2008: McCain (R)

My Maternal Grandfather: (guesses based things he's told me & such)
1960: Kennedy (D)
1968: Humphrey (D)
1972: McGovern (D) this surprised me. However, I'm running on four year old memories of him saying he never liked Nixon, etc.

I'd see my grandfather as a Nixon/ Reagan Democrat. Only wrinkle in that is he likely never voted Nixon. Probably voted straight Republican or close to it following Carter. Not sure, but I think he would've voted for fellow Michiganian Ford in 1976.

Dad:

Came from a very WASP-y country club Republican family; volunteered for Goldwater back in 1964 in his youth.  So you'd expect straight Republican, right?  Well, I'm assuming he did vote straight Republican for many years.  But not recently: Clinton's moderation, and his disgust with the Religious Right and neocon interventionism, have made him a swing voter that leans Democratic on the federal level.  Since 1992 (the first election I was old enough to notice; was 7 then):

1992- H.W. Bush (R)
1996- Bill Clinton (D)
2000- I'm honestly not sure; he disliked both candidates
2004- John Kerry (D)
2008- Barack Obama (D)

Mom:

Her parents were technically born here but spent their childhood in Poland, the sort of working-class Catholic whites that probably voted in huge numbers for Kennedy in 1960 and Reagan in 1980.  She was politically apathetic for most of her life, probably a mild liberal on social issues and mild conservative on economics.  Then three things happened: Lewinsky, 9-11, and Fox News, and she took a hard right turn.  These days I try to avoid talking politics with her. Tongue

I think 1992 might have been the first time she voted in a long time; pretty sure it's been straight R since then.

Grandparents:

I'm pretty sure they were all heavily Republican.  Most of my family has historically been pretty conservative, but a couple of my cousins (and probably one of my uncles) are definitely D-leaning.

Great-grandmother (maternal grandfather's mother) (voted for the first time in 1936):
according to my grandfather, she has never voted for a Democrat (she came from a very conservative midwestern family and one of her brothers was a Republican U.S. Congressman)

Maternal Grandfather (voted for the first time in 1956):
told me he has never voted for a Democrat for president in his life (his family were very conservative, anti-New Deal Republicans), so every Republican from Eisenhower to McCain

Maternal Grandmother (voted for the first time in 1956):
*has always voted Republican, but voted for LBJ in 1964
*her family were "Rockefeller Republicans" - supported the New Deal, pro-civil rights, etc)
*supported Ford over Reagan in the 1976 GOP primary
*told me she thought Obama's election was a very good thing for the country and has a strong dislike for Sarah Palin

Father (voted for the first time in 1980):
*voted Democratic in every election except 1984 (for Reagan) and 2000 (for Bush)
*Primaries: supported Gary Hart in '84; Jesse Jackson in '88; John Edwards in '08 (not sure about other years)

Mother (voted for the first time in 1980):
*swing voter with pretty moderate political views
'80 - Carter
'84 - Reagan
'88 - Bush
'92 - Bush
'96 - Clinton
'00 - Bush
'04 - Kerry
'08 - Obama
*Primaries: supported McCain in '08 (said Sarah Palin was the reason she voted for Obama instead)

My family and I are all immigrants, naturalized in 07.. My parents voted for 2008, mom waited 5 hours in line to happily vote for Obama and my father voted as well for Obama. 2012 is my first election. When we first got here we we're receptive to both sides but as time went on the family felt the Republican party and its members are unwelcoming and not as tolerate socially and progressive economically as the Dems. Also, aunts and uncles all voted Democrat save one uncle who voted for Bush in 00 over gun control. Since then they've voted Dem straight in presidential and congressional.

Mother doesn't vote, she's left-libertarian.

Father passed away in 1997, hard to say but probably also mostly libertarian by today's standards.
His previous votes that I know of:
(1996) Clinton
(1992) Perot
(1988) Dukakis*
(1984) Reagan*

*only somewhat sure on these.

Oh and my voting:

(2000) Browne
(2004) Badnarik
(2008) Baldwin
(2012) Paul or TBD.

Paternal Grandfather (I assume he became a citizen between 1975-1979):

1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Bush
1996: Dole
2000: Bush
2004: Bush
2008: McCain
2012: Republican

Paternal Grandmother (Idk how long she's been voting, but I'll do 2000-2008):

2000: Bush
2004: Bush
2008: McCain
2012: Republican

Dad:

1992: Bush

2008: Supported McCain, but didn't vote. (Romney in primary)
2012: Republican (He's supporting Mitt Romney)

My Mom doesn't vote, but she's an independent. I'll put who she supported in recent years:

2004: Bush (She was middle of the road moderate at the time)
2008: McCain (Leaned slightly left, but mainly a moderate)
2012: Republican (Moderately Conservative)

Uncle (Dad's brother):

1996: Clinton

Being recent Russian immigrants, they really didn't vote. Most of my grandparents and great-grandparents (probably great-great-) were members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. My mother and paternal grandfather both turned out for the first time in the 2008 election for McCain. This is particularly ironic for my grandfather, may he rest in peace, who was a member of the CPSU for decades and was a Colonel in the Soviet Army. Unfortunately, he'll probably be used against me if I run for office, which is a shame since he was a great man Sad

Dad

voted Republican in every election from 1972 to 2004 but voted for Obama in 08

Mom
didn't vote in 1972 or 1976. Voted for Anderson in 80 and voted Republican from 84-04 and for Baldwin in 08.

Mom's Dad
not sure if he voted in the 40s or 50s but I know he voted for JFK in 1960 and LBJ in 1964. He was all republican after that

Mom's Mom
grew up in Irish Catholic family and a loyal democrat at first voting for Truman, Stevenson, Kennedy LBJ. She voted for Nixon in 1968 and never looked back

Dad's Mom
She I think has voted democrat in every election except for McGovern, Mondale and maybe Dukakis

Dad's Dad
He was Canadian and he wasn't allowed to vote until 1964. I think he voted for Johnson in 64, Nixon both times, Ford in 76, Reagan both times, and Bush in 88. He voted for Clinton in 92 and probably voted for him in 96 (he died a few weeks after the election.)

Maternal Grandmother (b. 1952)
1972: McGovern (D)
1976: Carter (D)
1980: Carter (D)

1984: Reagan (R)
1988: Bush, Sr. (R)

1992: Perot (I)
1996: Clinton (D)
2000: W. Bush (R)
2004: Kerry (D)
2008: McCain (R)

^That is really the only interesting voting record in my family. Every one else votes either straight Democrat (my father's side) or straight Republican (my mother's side). People on my father's side may have voted for W. in '04 and McCain, and people on my mom's side may have voted for Perot in '92, but that's about it.

Dad
My dad's fairly moderate and says that he doesn't vote for any particular party... however, he always votes for a Democrat. He didn't vote during the 80's, but I doubt he'd have voted for Reagan as he is often critical of him. My dad's favorite President of all time is Bill Clinton, and he still misses him. However, he is also a big fan of Obama and will be voting for him this year.
1976: Carter
1980: Carter
1984: Did not vote.
1988: Did not vote.
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Gore
2004: Did not vote.
2008: Obama

Mom
She is the exact opposite of my dad. She prides herself on being an arch-conservative and she hates the Democratic party. Actually, she is rather moderate on a few social issues and supports measures like gun control. Go figure. Oh yes, she loves George W. Bush too.
1984: Reagan
1988: Did not vote.
1992: Bush
1996: Did not vote.
2000: Bush
2004: Bush
2008: McCain

Grandfather
Very conservative and hasn't voted a Democrat since John F. Kennedy. He isn't a Republican, he just doesn't like the Democratic Party at all. This began during the Johnson administration and hasn't abated since. I do want to make a note that he, like my Grandmother, voted for Kerry in '04 due to their dislike of George W. Bush.
1956: I have no clue.
1960: Kennedy
1964: Goldwater
1968: Nixon
1972: Nixon
1976: Ford
1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Perot
1996: Dole
2000: Bush
2004: Kerry
2008: McCain

Grandmother
She, like my grandfather, is pro-Republican, though she has been sympathetic to a couple of Democrats over the years. For example, she is very religious and voted for Jimmy Carter because she said he was a "good Christian man." She really disliked George W. Bush and was a huge Kerry supporter in 2004, which surprised me to say the least. Today, though, she is staunchly anti-Obama.
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
1968: Nixon
1972: Nixon
1976: Carter
1980: Carter
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Bush
1996: Dole
2000: Bush
2004: Kerry
2008: McCain

Great-Grandmother
My great-grandmother is a staunch Democrat who has never voted Republican in her entire life. She still looks up to Franklin Roosevelt and is one of the few old-style New Deal Democrats around. Sadly, I do not believe she is healthy enough to vote this year, but she'd vote Obama if she could.
1936: Roosevelt
1940: Roosevelt
1944: Roosevelt
1948: Truman
1952: Stevenson
1956: Stevenson
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
1968: Humphrey
1972: McGovern
1976: Carter
1980: Carter
1984: Mondale
1988: Dukakis
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Gore
2004: Kerry
2008: Obama

Oops I didn't mean to underline everything. Keep in mind too that I wasn't old enough to vote until 2003. My dad's family is conservative, but not until my grandpa switched to Republican after 1960. He is a firm believer in limited government, supplied side economics, and strong defense. The rest of his family is still moderately democratic I think. My grandma's family has a steel mill/union background and is strongly democratic but she is conservative like my grandfater was.  On my mom's side of the family, they are conservative but have voted democrat because of union membership and upbringing during the end of the depression.  However, it wouldn't surprise me if some of them voted for McCain in 2008. I know my mom's dad refused to vote for McCain because he was a Republican and refused to vote for Obama due to cultural reasons. While he voted democrat pretty much his entire life, he was strongly conservative on alot of issues that weren't economic related. Both he and my grandma were fans of John F. Kennedy whom I have come to admire in a few ways as well. My dad's brothers and his sister and their families vote straight GOP. My mom's brother is comparable to Strom Thurmond in alot of views.  As for myself, here is my primary voting record in modern elections.

1952- Eisenhower
1956- Eisenhower
1960- Nixon
1964- Goldwater
1968- Reagan
1972- Nixon
1976- Ford
1980- Reagan
1984- Reagan
1988- Bush
1992- Bush
1996- Dole
2000- Bush
2004- Bush
2008- McCain
2012- Romney

The more I read the voting histories of family members the more amazed I am that Kerry lost and Obama managed to win.
