VA: Obama 86, McCain 14
NC: Obama 83, McCain 16
FL: Obama 81, McCain 18
SC: Obama 80, McCain 19
TN: Obama 79, McCain 19
TX: Obama 78, McCain 20
GA: Obama 78, McCain 22
AR: Obama 68, McCain 28
WV: Obama 69, McCain 29
KY: Obama 62, McCain 37
OK: Obama 59, McCain 41
AL: McCain 51, Obama 47
LA: McCain 60, Obama 38

Mississippi did not have a significant sample of white Dems.

-----

Data by party and race is new, so it is hard to compare to previous years, but in any case it is disturbing that most white Dems in the Deep South voted for McCain.

White Democrats in Louisiana were actually more Republican than the state as a whole? Methinks small sample size is to blame for that aberration of a result.

I wonder what the national white vote is when you remove the Deep South and Appalachia...

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Obama won the non-Southern white vote (the South being the 11 former Confederate states + KY & OK)

Given how extremely more Democratic the black vote is than the state average it isn't necessarily that strange. The white vote average in Louisiana must have been what, 75-25 or something like that?

How does it compare with white Republicans in New England voting for Obama?

LA seems to have gone in reverse since katrina.

Look what happened to the crime rates in areas where the evacuees went after Katrina.

Wasn't someone arguing this summer that Obama would lose white Democrats nationwide?

I'm not suprised at all to see those results. Every white Democratic local I've met from outside the city voted for McCain.

Obama didn't win New England by so much that he would have won Republicans, but since this is an interesting question, here are the results:

NEW ENGLAND WHITE REPUBLICANS

NH: McCain 90% Obama 10%
RI: McCain 89% Obama 10%
CT: McCain 87% Obama 11%
VT: McCain 85% Obama 13%
ME: McCain 84% Obama 15%

MA: non-statistically significant sample

A margin of error of +/-6% couldn't have hurt either.

Shut up, troll.

The numbers for LA are probably wrong; I'd guess numbers somewhat similar to AL, around 50-50.

Like I said, you should be reclassified as an Independent if you never vote for your party's nominee at the federal level.

Most of those like that typical identify themselves as independents (or even as Republicans) when asked for party ID.

I dislike that he's calling the people racist, along with all of his other anti-Southern statements.

Yeah, probably.

I'm aware that you don't like it....but how does that make his statement incorrect?

Calling people racist just because they don't happen to vote for a black man is incorrect.
