In the first round:

Gov. Sarah Palin (91%) def. Gov. Dirk Kempthorne (9%)

Gov. Mitt Romney (98%) def. Gov. Mitch Daniels (2%)

Gov. Mike Huckabee (85%) def. Gov. Tom Ridge (15%)

Gov. Tim Pawlenty (71%) def. Rep. Eric Cantor (29%)

Gov. Charlie Crist (67%) def. Rep. Mike Pence (33%)

Gov. Jon Huntsman, Jr. (71%) def. Gov. Haley Barbour (29%)

Sen. John Thune (50%) loses to Gov. Mark Sanford (50%) on a tiebreak (my vote is worth 1 + epsilon here)

Gov. Bobby Jindal (59%) def. Sen. John Ensign (41%)

With the narrow defeat of Senator Thune, we are down to 8 Governors...a bit of a scary result.

As was the case last week, please cast four votes, one in each lettered matchup.  In each matchup, please vote for the candidate you consider most likely to win the nomination, not the candidate whom you would prefer to win the nomination.

This week's matchups:

A: Gov. Sarah Palin (AK) v. Gov. Bobby Jindal (LA)

B: Gov. Mitt Romney (MA) v. Gov. Mark Sanford (SC)

C: Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) v. Gov. Jon Huntsman, Jr. (UT)

D: Gov. Tim Pawlenty (MN) v. Gov. Charlie Crist (FL)

Voting will end the afternoon of Thursday, May 21.

Even though Jindal will likely run for re-election in 2011, and Crist is running for Senate in 2010?

Mitt Romney
Mike Huckabee
Tim Pawlenty
John Huntsman, Jr.
-----------------------

Sanford would be good VP material (and nothing better), Jindal would be smart to wait until 2016, Palin would be well advised to stay within the confines of Alaska, and Crist is rumored to be secretly gay -an unforgivable sin (even if unproven) by the GOP electorate.

Its amazing that peopel here are not higher on Sanford's prospects.

Am I really the only person old enough to remember the Perot campaign?

Don't forget the question of this thread.... and that the vote is between 2 persons in a match-up, not for one candidate among a total of 8.

I think, if faced with a choice between Palin and Jindal, GOP voters would be smart enough to pick the one who is electable, i.e. Jindal
(even if I know he won't run in 2012)

And, when faced with Huck and Huntsman, GOP voters may be smart enough to pick the electable one, i.e. Huntsman
(here, I'm not so sure....)

And I also vote for Romney (against him, Sanford wouldn't have any chance)
and for T-Paw (aren't many GOPers increasingly viewing Crist as a Sunny Specter ?)

A lot of Republicans don't like Romney. If Sandford had Romney's recognition, he would blow Romney out of the water. If it's between the two of them, Sandford would have the required recognition. It's not rocket science.

Sanford is less popular than Obama in South Carolina, where Obama hasn't done particularyl well.

No chance.

If we're going by likelihood rather than personal wishes:
Palin
Romney
Huckabee
Pawlenty (since Crist probably won't run)
