I respect libertarians just like I try to go out of my way to respect to the Gopers here by finding common ground on issues ( in most cases iam more conservative then soft republicans).  I just think libertarianism would be dangerous in todays America. We need controls and regulations to keep the order, because leaving everything in the hands of the folks don't always work out so great. I have nothing but pure  admiration of both parties.  But the Democrats here are better suited to run the country.

Randomly selected? Libertarians or Republicans then. Most of the Democrats here are staunch liberals or even socialists.

A lot of the D-regulars like JSJourner, Lief, jFern, GMantis, etc. trend towards the HARD left economically. They're basically 'Social Democrats,' self-identified or not. Plus this forum is significantly to the left of the american discourse in general. In some ways that's great, in others not so much.

Maybe they care about helping people, unlike the republicans here who are cold hearted in that area.

From what I've seen many of the Republicans here are actually significantly more moderate than the party leadership. People like Soult, Andrew, Torie, etc. would be accused of being RINOs in the current climate. Like I said, the forum tilts left.

Also not viewing government intervention as practical or desirable /=/ selfishness.

I would call heavy taxation, large work/entitlement programs, bail outs, protectionism, etc. social democratic policies. Which basically makes it 'diet' socialism. Not significant ownership of industry, but heavy redistribution of wealth and regulation.

McCain was never that coherent or articulate about his agenda, unfortunately.

Anyway, I don't have a total laissez-faire attitude on economic issues. I'm a big supporter of universal healthcare and oppose making the bush tax cuts permanent, for example. Basically I'm not all that different from the DLC types like Bill Clinton.

Red doesn't mean Democrat. The other side took that color awhile back, Leip is just too stubborn to change it. Tongue I call them 'socialistic' because, again, a lot of them clearly have 'social democratic' views. The national party is more moderate and diverse.

Socialism is not as bad as most people make it out to be.
