statewide Question 1: Eliminate Income Tax. Lost every town in Mass., and obviously did worse than McCain. But Nantucket and the six towns on Martha's Vineyard...

Edgartown No 58 Yes 42 vs. Obama 69 McCain 29
Tisbury No 61 Yes 39 vs. Obama 76 McCain 22
Oak Bluffs No 61 Yes 39 vs. Obama 72 McCain 26
West Tisbury No 67 Yes 33 vs. Obama 82 McCain 16
Chilmark No 66 Yes 34 vs. Obama 81 McCain 17
Aquinnah No 50 Yes 50 (2 votes difference) vs. Obama 90 McCain 8

Nantucket No 57 Yes 43 vs. Obama 68 McCain 31

(from that link in DavidNYC's thread, but I figured this was a different enough topic)

Aquinnah is a Native American town. Not latte liberals.

Median household income in Aquinnah (2000): $45,208
Median assessed home value: $1.3 million

Housing permits are about 30x MA average...

There's plenty of latte liberals in Aquinnah, there's just also plenty of Indians whose economy is completely dependent on them.  At least, that's what I gather from the income stats

Hmm, good, I was wondering about those extreme numbers. Natives often don't recognize the government's right to tax them, for reasons that have nothing to do with rightwingery of any kind. Still, according to wikipedia, it's 53% white, 37% Native American...

True. But I doubt more than a handful of those 53% white are living there in November. I've been there, about five years ago, on Thanksgiving. The Native presence is quite obvious while the mansions are, well, not. Not in the way they are in Edgartown or Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven (Tisbury), anyway. Local politics is supposed to be completely dominated by the Wampanoag.

Many wouldn't be real latte liberals anyways... I still don't understand why New Englanders like that coffee-water that Dunkin Donuts serves. I can't stand it.

Oh yes, I agree with you - Starbucks is pretty amazing, especially those caramel mocchiatos mmm Smiley

I don't understand when, where, how and why the term "latte liberal" developed. My friend and I used it a lot, especially during the primary season, I remember him saying, "The latte liberals in Portland haven't voted yet" or something along those lines lol

Is there such a thing as "latte conservative?" I'm guessing either lattes propagate the left-wing or homosexual agenda or the conservatives are anti-caffeine now. I guess we can call them "Ovaltine conservatives" lol Smiley

I drink about 5 gallons of coffee from there a year and it hasn't changed my political matrix score. Tongue Cafe Americano is usually what I get.
