Best Counties in Nation for Some Minor Party, Independent Presidential Candidates Identified
Ballot Access News

From preliminary election returns, it appears that these are the best counties for five particular presidential candidates:

Nader: Morgan County, Tennessee 5.2%
Barr: Esmeralda County, Nevada, 2.7%
Baldwin: Millard County, Utah, 5.6%
McKinney: either St. Bernard or LaFourche Parish, both in Louisiana, each 1.1%
Brian Moore: Essex County, Vermont, 2.1%

Thanks to Jack Ross for doing the laborious job of checking all the counties; also thanks to David Leip of the US Election Atlas. Of course when the returns are final, these may change. For the major parties, McCain’s best county is King County, Texas, at 93.2%; Obama’s best jurisdiction is Washington, D.C., which gave him a higher percentage than any county in any state, 92.9%. Aside from D.C., Obama’s best county is Prince Georges County, Maryland, 89.1%.

I'd still like to know how McKinney did so well in St. Bernard and Lafourche Parishes.

All of Vermont is a socialist hotbed.  Look at the percentage Bernie Sanders got.

What a state Vermont is. It is the only state to vote against FDR 4 times and now it's in love with the policies he advocated.

Actually Maine supported the Republican in all 4 elections as well. Tongue

That is odd, I agree.

What's odd about Essex being the county that he did the best in though is that Essex is the most Republican county in the state... the Atlas says Moore only got 0.06% there though, so I think the original article posted is in error.

Not really, once you account for the population changes that occurred between these times

Yep, it was the only one that voted for Bush in 2004. But Obama won it this year.

Obama even won Granby, erstwhile the most Republican town in Vermont, with 60%.

The most Republican town in Vermont probably is only 40% GOP...
