It's not a gift card for an abortion, it's a gift card that can be used for an abortion. Big difference.

You can get gift cards to retailers that sell guns. I'm sure that greatly offends WalterMitty types. Do you agree there Phil? There's always going to be ways to get things you don't like, deal with it.

It's disgusting to think of these things as "gifts." There is something very wrong about this. Please consider the timing as well. Don't tell me that this wasn't done on purpose. Disgusting.

Once again, these things can be used for non-abortions. Many non-disgusting "gifts".

Of course the timing was on purpose, Christmas is the most likely time to send gift cards. Duh.

And I'm sure WalterMitty considers guns as "gifts" disgusting too.

It could have been specified that Planned Parenthood would not recognize these certificates for abortions. We've reached a pathetic low when we start treating this issue as if it is a present for people.

They're always digging for a way to irritate the religious, BRTD. I know you were once Pro Life but I think deep down you're still sympathetic to those opposed to abortion. I don't know why I feel that way but I think that that's the case.

We know that Walter (as much as I like the guy) is irrational on that. Don't compare it to that.

If it were a "one free abortion" type card it'd be comparable. If Planned Parenthood were to adopt your idea they would basically be treating abortion as some sort of wrong, which of course they would never want to do. I suppose a valid point could be made in the person giving the gift card might not want it used for that purpose, but I doubt anyone truly that offended would be giving such a card in the first place.

You're kind of grasping at straws on that one. It reminds me of Walter claiming Obama's 3AM text messages were a swipe at Hillary. Doing something that cheap wouldn't be good publicity.

I know you were once Pro Life but I think deep down you're still sympathetic to those opposed to abortion. I don't know why I feel that way but I think that that's the case.

Wouldn't that contradict what you said here?

My point is that some gift is going to offend almost everyone. Hell I bet a lot of people would be offended by stuff I've given/received in the past. I've given pornographic magazines to my brothers, given/received violent video games, etc. Hell one of the strip clubs here sells certificates that work as money (basically so that you can use a credit card.) those could be given as gifts too, as could free passes to them. That would disgust some people.

(Note: I actually did once give someone a strip club free pass as a gift, though it wasn't for Christmas and it was sort of a joke.)

The point here is that I would expect even Planned Parenthood to know when they crossed the line. Yes, I can see how this could be seen as admitting that their stance is wrong but there are some tactics that shouldn't be used (for example, I dislike the use of graphic images of an aborted fetus by Pro Life advocates).

Well, no, not really. I really wonder if you're genuinely Pro Choice.

Cash can be used for abortions, too.

Are people really making the cash comparison? Really?

The point is that these abortions are being reduced to gift status. Many of the most vocal Pro Choice advocates would be disturbed by reducing the seriousness of this issue.

What ever happened to the free market and keeping government out of people's lives? You want to be socially Conservative, fine, but now you're not being economically Conservative. PP wants to make money, they found a niche in the market, so be it.

How does this not make me an economic conservative? I've made it quite clear that I don't support banning these certificates. However, as an economic conservative, I don't have to personally like everything being sold.

And I've explained why abortion isn't an issue where we believe in "keeping government out of people's lives." I think you know what my argument would be so don't play that game.
