While most likely to destine to fail, I propose the following:

Section One of F.L. 18-7 (the Embroynic Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act) is hereby repealed

I oppose repealing any of this legislation. $50 million by the way, is just jar money. It's nothing.

Of course, but it's the principle that bothers me.

For those that haven't read the legislation in question, the section I'm trying to get rid of is;

What does "therapeutic cloning" mean?  And what is the objection to using funds for research on embryonic stem cells? Surely it is not that they are human, and thus we are committing homicide I would hope.

My query is the same as Torie's. What is "therapeutic cloning"?

My query is the same as Torie's. What is "therapeutic cloning"?

"There are two commonly discussed types of human cloning: therapeutic cloning and reproductive cloning. Therapeutic cloning involves cloning cells from an adult for use in medicine and is an active area of research: while reproductive cloning would involve making cloned human beings. Such reproductive cloning has not been performed and is illegal in many countries."

hmm...
I don't think I have a problem with therapeutic cloning, then. And I definitely don't have much against Stem Cell Research, so I will oppose this bill.

My problem here is with the total lack of restrictions. And, of course, nowhere does it clearly say that this situation of "no restrictions" applies only to projects funded under section one of this act.

ah, true. Having no restrictions when it comes to this branch of science is just asking for a disaster.

Is this an additional amendment to the bill, or a replacement of the current language of the bill?

     After some thought, I will probably vote aye. It seems to me that it would be a bad precedent to fund research without any sort of restrictions.

The vote is on the amendment. Note that this is an additional section, not an amendment to replace the current text.

Aye.

I don't see how we can unspend money that was spent 6 Senates ago. The 50 million surely gone. Repealing the section does what exactly?

Nowt, presumably. But that's the problem with most of the spending legislation ever passed...

Amendment has enough votes to fail, Senators have time to change.
