It is me or we, homosexuals, are overrepresented here?

Congratulations, MSUFan. I would like to have the same courage than you.

I guess it shows that us homosexuals are political junkies!

Or people are way more open about their sexuality online. Still I would say only maybe 5-10% of this forum is gay. Would be cool if somebody did a census or something......

That's actually a fantastic idea, Someone should set that up.

5-10% is a quite conservative estimate... and that's just factoring in gays. Counting bisexuals it's even higher...

Congratulations MSUfan - I'm glad things went well here, and hopefully it'll lead you to feeling comfortable enough to talk about this with more of your friends. As for your family, it's a bit tricky...as you've said, being bi sorta gives you an excuse to just leave it, but then you're not letting them totally into your life which would probably be the ideal situation. It's not really something any of us can advise on, you know them best and will be able to work out the best course of action when the time is right Smiley

This thread has made me think about my own experience of coming out...I can't believe it's been nearly a decade since I first told somebody in person. Makes me feel ancient since I remember it like it was yesterday Smiley

Over the weekend I was spending a lot the weekend with my best friend Ty. We went up to his cabin about an hour and a half away. We went skiing, snowmobiling and just hung out. It was a bunch of fun.

Anyway, Ty is gay (closeted though - he's only told me and and a couple of his other friends.) I held the same confidence in him. On Saturday evening I ended up telling him I was Bisexual. He's the first and only person I've told to date, in person. He was totally O.K. with it but surprised, I guess he'd never had the thought cross his mind I might be anything but straight.

This weekend was one of the best in my life. I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders... at least somewhat. Also, if you have read the "Keystone Phil vs. MSUfan" thread, you'll see that my sexual interaction isn't 100% female anymore. The 10% happened this weekend. O.K., that was probably unnecessary but I'm just so happy...

Sorry for cluttering the thread with more attention whoring but... yeah, you know.

We know.

We also know you're not sorry in the slightest.

And seriously, significantly more than "just 10%" of this forum is gay.  That's just how things work considering (1) gays tend to be more interested in politics because it so directly affects their lives and (2) the internet provides a key semi-anonymous social outlet for interaction that straight people don't exactly need when they're coming to terms with their sexuality.

I think the last political forum I was at wound up being (unintentionally) damn close to 30 or 35% gay/bi.

I am so glad for you MSUFan, you are a very nice guy and I'm glad you took that step to make yourself happy. I hope you keep on making steps that let you live a free and open like, and having your bestfriend(is he still you BF or is he something more now) to talk about "gay" things is great too.

To tell you the truth, it's kind of up in the air. I don't know what we are. I can't really advance our relationship to that kind of level with the stage I'm at.... and the stage he's at. I also don't want to be some sort of slut, either. I'm not the 'friends with benefits' sort of guy. To be honest, I never saw any of this coming.

Well... how can I put it that wouldn't alienate the prude police on the forum? Hmm....

DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!

Let's see... Well, in this case, I wasn't the king of the hill, for once.

Don't worry, I don't think people can accuse you of attenton whoring when it's in a thread you've created yourself. That's what I would assume, at least Smiley
