Alien and Sedition Acts /= fascism.  They were definitely bad, though.

He's an FF, of course.

"Vote yes!"

"Sit down, John!"

"Vote yes!  Vote yes!  For the independency!"

"Won't somebody open up a window!"

Ah, such a great show.

And not even that bad when compared to the suppression of speech and press under Lincoln, Wilson, FDR or the HUAC .

He fails to receive the recognition of really helping the American Revolution. For instance, he was able to secure needed financial assistance from the Dutch durring the Revolution, but that is rarely, if ever, brought up in the history books. I guess this is ebcause the Dutch didn;t give the Americans colorful charecters like Admiral DeGrasse.

Adams was a man who looked down on direct democracy, and as a student of Plato, the Cato Letters and Hobbes, this is to be expected.  General Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay and Adams made up the upper eschelon of government federalists, and thus they opposed direct rule of the people. I don;t know if this makes him a "fascist", if at all it makes him an elitist. Adams was a revolutionary who, once he had power, wanted to form a reactionary government. This was what Washington, Franklin, Madison and, eventually, Jefferson all strove for, as none truly trusted rule of the people. The revolution, as has been written, was more, "Who will rule at home over home rule."

I don't think that's the right way to characterize his view.  He thought people were flawed and thus governments should have a structure that counter balanced interests against each other and upholds the rule of law over the passions of the people.

One of the most influential founding fathers' reputation is ruined simply because he reluctantly signed into law the A&S Acts?

I approve of what he did before and during the Revolution. What he did after the Revolution was revolting.

Mixed.  A good person, for the most part, but an otherwise average presidency marred by the Alien & Sedition Acts.

I didn't realize that I had posted in this thread before.  Half a year later, I find myself watching 1776 again.  Brilliant!
