So Bunning barely got re-elected in 2004, and in the process appeared to be a little crazy. 6 years of aging later and with a much stronger presence for Democrats in Kentucky, are his odds of being re-elected better than even? I'd speculate not, but of course, it's just wild speculation.

the GOP would have a much better shot at holding this as an open seat, leading me to suspect it's likely he'll either retire or be primaried. If he does indeed run for reelection in the general, a blue dog Democrat with an Anglo name should have little trouble beating him.

He might be unseated by another Republican in the primaries.

Bunning has made it quite clear that he has no intent whatsoever of retiring. Whether the Republicans can scrounge up someone other than Anne Northup to challenge him in the primary is a whole different story.

I hope Bunning can get re-elected, though it looks unlikely.

More than unlikely, impossible.

Bruce Lunsford would certainly be a strong candidate here, given that he almost knocked off McConnell (a much stronger candidate than Bunning), despite the McCain effect. In a midterm against Bunning, he would definitely be the favorite.

I doubt that Lt. Gov. Mongiardo (2004 nominee against Bunning) will run, although Kentucky holds off-year elections. He has his spot, and I think he'll run for reelection in 2011. His wife is 23, which is kinda weird.

I've heard zero Lunsford buzz over Bunning's seat.  It's all Chandler and Mongiardo.  It's pretty early, but my guess is that Lunsford gave up.

That's odd. He has this seat if he wins the primary (and Bunning wins, too).

Also Conway and Luallen.

Lunsford wouldn't stand a chance in the primary anyway.
