Faveo Senato Romano valde. Sordidior, turpior, delectabilior est!
(I favor the Roman the senate greatly. It's dirtier, nastier, and more enjoyable!)

If we do go with old Roman, I have a roman font and am willing to write out all of the passed decrees in Latin in that font in as official a style to the old senate decrees as possible. (Should i be called upon to do so)

Old Rome it is
The idea is simple. It is post 44BC and Caesar has been stabbed. Cue anarchy. Cue the Senate. The Senate, for now concerns itself with military and economic matters. Each province sends a Senator, each Senator serves himself (and also acts as governor). He wants solely what is good for his province with little regard for anhything else. Unless you represent a civilised province when you have your people to worry about.
Senators may work together, there may even be genuine friendships but the Senate floor is a chaotic
Each Senator has at his command an army. By itself it can do no more than keep the peace, satve off raiders or invade barabarian territories for the privelage of Rome (and spoils
) but
together
they can overthrow an Emperor or split the Empire in two....

Okay rough estimate here.
Belgica
Gallia - Hashemite
Narbonensis
Hispania
Lusitania - PiT
Italia Inferior - G.O.P
Italia Superior - SoS
Dalmatia
Achaea
Asia
Pontus
Syria - Ben
Cyrenacia - Afleitch
Africa - HappyWarrior.
If these get full we can absorb the vassals and then start subdividing the larger provinces.

Once I lead my army in conquest of America, I'll be glad to submit portions of the land to the Emperor as new provinces.

Here's an example I wrote up of what Im talking about:

in English,
Quote
Motion of the Roman Senate
Motion One, Session One, Fifteenth of March, 44 BC
(Senate Session) Led by Generic Roman
(Law) Written by Zachary the Stylus
Declaration of War Against Britannia
Because the cheiftains of tribes of Britannia refuse to cease attacks on friends of rome, we, the roman senate have decided war against these tribes of britannia is the only appropriate response. 8 legions under quintus tullius quadratus are to be sent to suppress these barbarians. Total power over the mission is allowed to q. t. quadratus. the senate wishes to clarify that we are not waging war against all Britannia. Preferrably, the roman senate offers friendship to the peaceful, civil tribes living in britannia.
roll call
in favor: all
opposed: none
thus is the just action of the senate on behalf of the SPQR in the name of Jupiter
Like what you guys see? Afleitch, let me know if youre interested in me doing this, and if so, what you want me to tweak. (I honestly wont be offended if you say no!

I'm so excited!

I like it, though shouldn't it be in all caps since it's Latin? We want maximum authenticity after all.

Hahaha, yes you are right, I will be sure of that in the future. I originally tried to upload word documents with a cool font that is all caps, so I wrote it in no caps and forgot to fix it when I just decided to copy it over.

I think it's a great idea
Of course the Roman notion of law was that laws are thought to express ideals that people should strive to achieve. Not to express minimum requirements that must be met.
Which makes devising such flexable laws all the more fun

Haha, indeed. The good thing for me is that 90% of the time I wouldnt be writing the english laws, merely translateing what everyone else writes. I just wanted to make an example of the format and to show my expertise in the language to prove that I was capable.

Didn't official Roman proclamations come out in all CAPS? I don't recall them writing in lower-case.

It seems interesting.
If it ever begins, I would take Hispania.
Or Belgica if it's "vacated".
