First Lady Michelle Obama declines to serve her role as chief hostess of the White House, citing family responsibilities and conflicts with her professional career.

In keeping with his Team of Rivals theme, President Elect Obama should replace Michelle with Mitt Romney, who is eminently qualified for this job, providing Romney agrees not to seek the Presidency in 2012.

Please discuss.

No, the only way to convince Romney not to challenge Obama in 2012 is to give him both the the senate seats in Illinois *and* New York.  Maybe set him up to serve as both Majority Leader and Majority Whip.

Actually, wait.  That wouldn't be good enough.  In order to prevent Romney from challenging Obama in 2012, Obama should simply cede the presidency to him for the next four years, on the condition that Romney declines to run in 2012.  However, once Obama is "reelected" in 2012, he will then have to cede the presidency to Romney again from 2013-17, in order to prevent Romney from challenging him in 2016.  Only by granting Romney a full two terms as president will Obama have the opportunity to serve as president (from 2017 onwards, should he win the 2016 election) without the threat of a challenge from Mitt Romney hanging over his head.

My first thought when I read the thread title: "Romney is gay?"

But since it would be Barack Obama who would be asking Mitt Romney to take Michelle's role, it would therefore stand to reason that Obama is the gay one, since he is the one asking Romney, Romney is not the one asking Obama.

It is flattering to see that I have inspired a parody, however, my thread raises a legitimate, though unlikely, possibility, whereas this thread, though imaginative, is mockery.

Ah, but Romney, always willing to whore himself out for power, would of course agree to a shotgun wedding in Connecticut. Which would be highly entertaining for all involved, albeit an unfortunate distraction from the real issues at stake.

It would help to repair the fences Obama broke with the gay community by having Rick Warren give the invocation at the inauguration.  However, does Massachusetts require both partners to be from a State that sanctions gay marriage or will only one do?

As I suggested in my post, it wouldn't matter if they hopped next door to Connecticut, which has no antique law forbidding marriages which are not valid in the home state of the individuals in question. (IIRC the Massachusetts law was originally to prevent interracial marriages.)
