Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, who raised her profile on the presidential campaign trail, is moving toward declaring her bid for governor of California, a source close to her said.

The latest step: she just resigned down from board seats at Procter & Gamble, Dreamworks, and eBay

At least she's not Carly Fiorina

Now this is interesting. I will definitely keep watch on this one.

Anyway, what are her political views? What chances does she have in the primary and in the general election?

In other words, she's hard right on economic issues. Of course a lot of the naive rich kids on this forum will like that.

I don't think Whitman can win, she clearly aligned herself as McCain's mouthpiece in a state where McCain got rejected by 20%.  She has no campaign experience (and I guarantee you that all of her likely opponents have run successful campaigns before), and she's not really pretty to look at in a state that likes TV-friendly prettyboys.

(I didn't choose an especially ugly picture off of Google either).

think about it.  TV ads will be intensive

Despite being able to self-finance a good portion of her campaign, I don't think she can win either.  I'm glad she's throwing her name in to the mix though since it certainly makes things more interesting.  She's obviously a political mystery since she's never run for anything or been all that vocal other than tooting McCain's horn on talk shows.

I wonder if she'll get grilled in the primary for not registering as a Republican until 2007.

Most shots of her are FAR better than that Google shot.

She shows off way too much of her upper gums in pictures for my taste, but it's not like she's significantly uglier than Senator Feinstein or anything.

At least that gives her an easy-to-remember slogan: "Vote for the ugly one"

I love how one person in this picture looks completely uninterested, frightened even, while the other has no idea.

BIG DIFFERENCE: Feinstein was first elected Mayor 30 years ago (and Senate 16 years ago but she ran for Senate when she was already very much a California political heavyweight) when she probably looked better and TV was far more negligible.  And there are exceptions to the rule natch.  But yeah, big difference with incumbency
