I heard that there was a poll done in which children in France were asked what they want to be when they grow up, and the overwhelming answer was some position in the French government.  Do French government employees earn a relatively high salary?  Or do they just hold a high level of prestige?

Or did I just hear something that probably wasn't true?

They have a lot of advantages and are generally well-paid. It's a guaranteed job, and most don't lose too much sleep over it.
