Of course, while it is certainly true that they exert a very beneficial influence in society, the only reason for the excessive popularity of their product in America is because of the rather effective ban on normal prostitution.  If the latter were legal, reasonably safe, and not too expensive, porn would recede into the background.  Interestingly here in Thailand porn is illegal (though certainly available), while prostitution is largely tolerated (though technically illegal).   The result is that most men have only a very passing interest in porn, and masturbation is viewed as the last resort of the broke rather than the mainstay of male sexuality as in the States.

Haha, my Dad was a programmer in a town of <3,000 people growing up.  Most of the houses around us had more cars than people living in them, I'm pretty sure we were one of the few with more computers than people.

Actually Thailand is now pretty much a middle income country, and computers are cheap.  Everyone has access to a computer in internet cafes, and I would say a large percentage of the population has a computer in their home.  But you do have a good point that there is a lot less privacy in most Thai households - though this has as much to do with culture as economics.
