Last year when I did this poll, 2001 was the overwhelming winner.

depends in what respect.

2001 changed the world forever, and 2008 seems like it, but I'd still say 2001 was more influential.

I think 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2008 were pretty important, but 2001 takes the cake because events that transpired in 2001 set the course for decades ahead.

2002, because that was when Bush harnessed 2001 to set in motion two events that defined the decade: the Iraq War and a solid Republican majority in Congress strongly allied to his administration.

I guess 2008 and 2001 will be considered the most important in the history books. They weren't the most important to me personally though.

2007 - my perspective is the only one that actually exists.  the rest of you should feel the same way.

Still 2001, but it may become 2008 in the future.

I meant that everyone should judge based on their own perspective rather than search for some universal truth.  I did not mean to communicate that I somehow had a monopoly on observing reality.

Based upon my own perspective, 2004, easily. I'm still feeling the ramifications of 2004 to this day.

I think you give the self a little too much credit, young padawan.

There is more than just "I" and "me."  There is you, you guys, and perhaps most importantly, us.

They are all important in human culture.

But all of that is completely irrelevant to the question.  It really depends on the intent that Naso had when he asked the question.  I just assumed it meant "which year of the past 9 has had the largest influence on the way the world stands today" which would imply the "us" rather than the "me".

Come to think of it, there was a very important event in my life at the very end of 2001. It had nothing to do with 9/11 though.

2008, because of the economic crisis that will probably turn into a global depression, and 2008 being the probable year of an all time high in oil production (this past July at 87.9 million barrels per day if I recall correctly)
