I turn 18 right before the 2012 general election. Under California law, are you allowed to vote in the primary election if you're not 18 but will be 18 by the time of the corresponding general election?

No, you have to be 18 by the date of the primary, as I unfortunately discovered last year.

Just call 1-800-345-8683 during normal hours next Monday to be sure

to make sure I'm not frontin', you can verify the number here:
http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm

And it's no big deal to call these folks.  I've called people pretending I'm a voter on the East Coast in order to verify election dates and information.  No one cares if your phone number is from rural CA.

California has an East Coast?

Oh right, Lake Tahoe. I forgot.

I'm from that area but that's not what East Coast means if you have the letters capitalized....

but you're probably being witty.

At least my language doesn't capitalize ALL nouns and then cram all nouns together like the Shipcaptainsjacketsbuttonshole!!!!
