Well, I say Jindal. As an independent, my voice is quite important in these matters.

Jindal's a wingnut that would be torn apart in a national election.  You can tell by how popular he is in Louisiana.

Mitt Romney's unpopularity everywhere else but solid fan base in Utah is obviously much better for a national election.

Huntsman. Mormonism mostly hurts him in the primaries, not the general. But he almost certainly could not make it out of the primaries (not for ideological incompatibility but for religion and split of Mormon money with Romney), so take from that what you will.

Romney, Crist, and Hagel. Although I very much like Huckabee's personality.

To Make a Godlike Politician/Campaigner

Romney + Huckabee + A Dash of Hagel + 45th POTUS

Is it me, or does the conventional wisdom here on Romney seem to have turned upside down now that he's not running against Giuliani and McCain?

Agreed, just because he knows the most about economics (even if I disagree with him on most of his positions).

I think a lot of people seem to think all the racism in Louisiana against Jindal mysteriously disappeared between 2003 and 2007. It didn't. The guy still got 54% against an assortment of jokes. He was basically running unopposed, and still underperformed Bush and McCain.

It's not just you.

I think Romney is the most obvious choice right now, but in a few years that may change to Crist, Huntsman, Barbour (Lol) or Gingrich (even bigger LOL).

That's only of the options here, of course...

Other: Chuck Hagel, Colin Powell, a resurrected Abraham Lincoln... all are equally likely.

Actually, I'll throw out an "Other: Patraeus", which is more feasible, though not by much.

I don't get why everyone's harping on Crist. I really don't think the gay issue is something that will get too much play, and if it does, only to the degree that the Obama is a Muslim lies got anywhere. Otherwise, he's a popular, moderate Governor of a swing state. However, he, like Jindal, will probably wait until 2016.

Unless he goes Ted Haggard on us it will not be an issue.

I voted for Romney as a joke, but after giving it a few seconds of thought I realized- wow. He really is the most electable person on the list! Ouch.

Romney is electable for the same reason Obama was electable, in my opinion.

He's black, inspirational, young people love him, and he has a flawlessly-run, efficient, state of the art campaign apparatus? Not last time I checked, no...

He appears to be competent.

I guess I have a higher opinion of Obama voters than you, but oh well.

Competence really isn't something consider when they vote for President, unless the candidate clearly is not (see Palin, Sarah).

lol

If Perry is the Republican nominee for Governor of Texas in 2010, he should consider himself fortunate. With the wit of George W. Bush and the plastic persona of Mitt Romney, he would be disposed of quickly in a national primary.
