If Perry is the Republican nominee for Governor of Texas in 2010, he should consider himself fortunate. With the wit of George W. Bush and the plastic persona of Mitt Romney, he would be disposed of quickly in a national primary.

Provided that Obama's first term isn't a complete and utter disaster (quite doable in comparison to the previous two presidential terms) than the most electable Republican would likely be moderate, and by that I don't mean a pseudo-moderate like John McCain or (lawl) Mike Huckabee. It wouldn't necessarily need to be Lincoln Chafee...but you get the idea.
