There's now been three attempts at making deals in order to win control of state legislative bodies this year (Texas and Tennessee State Houses and the New York State Senate). There was also the fiasco in the Pennsylvania State House two years ago.

Have power control deals that stretch across party lines always been this common? Or has there been an uptick in the past two cycles?

Don't forget Alaska; they have some sort of bipartisan coalition in place IIRC.

That Senate coalition has been in place since 2006. Although it was 9 Ds and 6 Rs against 5 Rs; now it's 10 Ds and 3 Rs against 7 Rs.

There was also such a deal in the Alaska State House at some point in the recent past, although I forget exactly when.
