I'm always amused that libertarians to tend focused on these liberities - freedoms from, not freedoms to be.

Selling your own body to a hospital or person who needs one? Sure

Companies that take in body parts and then mark them up and then sell them? No

And of course if it would kill you to donate the part then no.

For some reason, I initially read that as saying that it shouldn't be legal to kill other people & sell their body parts. Tongue

Ugh. Voted lean yes accidentally, meant to vote lean no. On further thought, no is probably a better idea.

Flat out no.  As I said in the prostitution argument, human beings aren't property.

Lean no. There are definitely advantages, such as increasing the number of organs available for transplants. However, it also is extremely susceptible to abuse.

I think selling your body in this manner is almost a right, but not quite.  I don't want people selling their body parts for seven rocks of crack and I don't want people selling their body parts in order to make rent.

I gotta break with my Liberts on this one

There's a difference between letting people, uh, penetrate, another human being, and selling a non-regenerative organ

As long as it's regenerative, then yes.

Ah, that's the keyword.

Skin is, after all, an organ.

I may be a faux-libertarian, but I don't think we should in any way encourage poor people to sell essential body parts for short-term relief

I think people have an absolute right to sell parts of their body for whatever reason they want, but that's probably due to me being a propertarian more than anything else.

Isn't that their decision to make and not yours?

To some degree.  But we as a society shouldn't encourage temporary short-term sacrificing against peoples' long term livelihood.

I'm not sure if I really support  these "gold kits" I've seen recently advertised on TV commercials where suckers mail in all of  their under-valued jewelry in order to receive cash within 48 hours.

Perhaps I'd be ok with selling vital organs, but it would need protections to STRONGLY discourage trickery and deception AKA advertisements throwing up a web of confusion to encourage you to make awful short-term risk/payoff decisions

Once again, it seems that the old freedom libertarians on this forum care about is the freedom to make as much money as possible.

Yes, that's why we favor legalized prostitution, guns, fireworks, seatbelt laws and free speech too.  It's all about the money!

Lets just hope it never comes to suckers mailing in their organs to receive fast cash.

So long as it is not harmful to other people, I do support the regulation of the human body. then again, the idea that this is even an option to some of the more destitute is nothing short of nauseating and disappointing.
