Condiments don't enhance the flavor, they are the flavor.

Generally agree. There are exceptions, such as ketchup when the fries aren't salty enough, but I usually won't eat food with condiments on it.

Condiments are awesome, but they shouldn't (normally) make the food.  Ham needs mustard.  Fries need ketchup.  Beef needs.....something.  Some things only work with condiments, corn chips and any meat in "nugget" form for two.

Disagree, tho I use very little compared to many people.

The only thing mayonnaise is good for is to hold together tuna fish.  Why anyone prefers ketchup over tomato slices is a mystery to me.  However, mustard...  that truly is a delectable wonder of the food deities.

...and when you guys are saying "mayo", what do you mean?  To some (weirdos) it's that Hellmans thing.  To normal people it's Miricle Whip salad dressing.

Hellman's - bring out the best!

Miracle Whip isn't my favorite. Duke's mayo is big in the south.

I avoid most white and creamy things, so no mayo, mustard, butter etc. I don't mind tomato sauce, and some spices are ok, but thats about it.

I don't like mayo or miracle whip really.  I almost always use BBQ sauce on chicken sandwiches of any kind.

But I generally always have a condiment of some kind on my food... unless it's a sandwich that has really good ingredients.. but even then I'll usually put a good spicy mustard on it.

The saying goes, though  "you know you're a Minnesotan if you think Ketchup is just a little bit too spicy"

Aye, no condiments, at least of the processed, common-place variety (catsup, mayo, mustard, etc...).  I'm assuming this doesn't include tasteful and authentic sauces, such as real BBQ sauce on real BBQ, and gravy on fried chicken.

BRTD's only trying to look sophisticated. There IS something asinine about needing to smother half of everything in ketchup in order to eat it. But to me that could simply be because I don't like ketchup.

Personally I enjoy mixing together mustard and ranch dressing. And I can't eat a lot of Mexican food without plenty of sour cream. Fish and chips aren't nearly as good without lemon juice. I really only like mayo if it's on a hamburger that includes both lettuce and tomato. Condiments are just fine if used correctly.

Of course not. Ranch dressing is a gift from God.

I partially agree. I enjoy coleslaw on my hot dogs...but that's about it. Nothing belongs on fries except for salt, says me.

I avoid most white and creamy things,

Haha, but not all, eh, Mary?

Anyway, as for me the idea of avoiding flavor is repellant.  I love spices and sauces.  Food without is extremely boring.  Western condiments are good (though I don't like ketchup), and I notice no one has mentioned horseradish sauce, but generally my favorites are the spicier ones available in Thailand and other Asian or Subcontinental countries:

Yep, you're from the St.Louis area.  We love us some horseradish!  I eat it on porkchops and certain fish.  It can be hard to find outside of my refrigerator and the grocery store though.  At least around here.

I eat horseradish sauces quite frequently at the various German restaurants around Thailand.

The quality of my life would be noticeably degraded if mustard were not in it, particularly gray poupon mustard.

Elitist.  Tongue~~

I'm a fairly big mustard fan, but I really don't find grey poupon to be the best available..  I suppose its the best available in your average non-ethnic standardized american grocery store though...

As Opebo said, food without condiments or some kind (be it a sauce or a dressing or mustard/ketchup) is generally boring. A good, quality mustard (not French's) is what I imagine God tastes like.
