Resolution on the Ongoing Israel-Palestine Conflict

1. The Republic of Atlasia condemns Hamas for failing to end the irresponsible and unwarranted rocket attacks on Israel.

2. The Republic of Atlasia recognises Israel's right to defend itself, however condemns the recent military actions of the Israeli Government against Palestinians as disproportionate and as failing to take all necessary measures to prevent civilian casualties and fatalities.

3. The Republic of Atlasia calls for an immediate ceasefire and asks both sides to allow unrestricted access for humanitarian agencies to assist the victims of these attacks.

If the Senate merely called upon the Republic of Atlasia to make these calls, then that would be fine. Really though, shouldn't the executive be making these decisions?

I didn't think it prudent to awaken him from his hibernation.

I don't see anything nasty about this. Could you elaborate? It seems pretty straightforward and balanced to me. (There's also nothing particularly letterish about it.)

It's a reference from Team America where Hans Blix tells Kim Jong-Il that if he doesn't stop making nuclear weapons they are going to send him a "nasty, nasty letter".  What I mean is that this resolution does not nothing but tell the countries we don't like them.  I introduced my measure because it is effective.  Its like asking whether a parent who tells a toddler to stop doing something is more effect than the parent who teaches them there are reprecussions for their actions.

Well, I don't know what the Senate can do (that isn't ridiculous) with regards to the issue. This bill at least expresses our view on the issue, which is better than nothing.

I don't see what makes my bill ridiculous, it says the same thing as this but then says if don't fix the problem we will by screwing you over

Of course, that assumes that Atlasia has the role as international parent. I intend to vote against this and any other resolutions relating to the Gaza conflict.

Israel's actions were fully justified - not "disproportionate - one of those little buzz phrases that in this context is getting rather old as a talking point. What would you favor doing if rockets were being fired from Mexico into San Diego? Everything that goes into Gaza must be inspected to weed out weapons of destruction. Thus I cannot support the resolution as written.

Abstain, I just can't make up my mind, we need to do something but I think this is too simplistic.

The resolution fails. A pity.
