Color shading on Primary Maps
«
on:
February 24, 2004, 11:50:58 pm »
Dave,
I like the primary maps but am having some trouble determining whether a different shade corresponds to a lower victory or a different candidate. Just wondering if you could help me out with the congressional districts. I have:
IA 1,2,5 Kerry
IA 3,4 Edwards
NH both Kerry
AZ all Kerry
DE-AL Kerry
MO all Kerry
ND-AL Kerry
OK 1,5 Kerry
OK 2 Edwards
OK 3,4 Clark
SC 1, 3-6 Edwards
SC 2 Kerry
MI all Kerry
WA all Kerry
TN 1-3, 7-9 Kerry
TN 4-6 Edwards
VA all Kerry
DC-AL Kerry
WI 3,4,7,8 Kerry
WI 1,2,5,6 Edwards
I don't see the CD results for NM, ME, and NV.
Thanks!

I think it's:
IA 1,2,5 Kerry
IA 3,4 Edwards
NH both Kerry
AZ all Kerry
DE-AL Kerry
MO all Kerry
ND-AL Kerry
OK 1,5 Kerry
OK 2 Edwards
OK 3,4 Clark
SC all Edwards
MI all Kerry
WA all Kerry
TN all Kerry (Clark was one heck of a spoiler)
VA all Kerry
DC-AL Kerry
WI 2,3,4,6,7,8 Kerry
WI 1,5 Edwards

I will be changing the color scheme within the next week to reflect the dominance of Kerry. Kerry will be red and Edwards green. Dean will be purple. Clark will stay blue. Overall, this will make the Kerry/Edwards maps easier to distinguish. I will also have CD data and official county-level data for those contests that have been certified.

Wil you switch the colors again when Edwards wins the nomination? :-D

Cool. Thanks Dave. I was going to ask if you might consider this. You have been consistent thus far on making the eventual Dem nominee Red (or in the case of the GOP, the eventual nominee Blue), which makes sense for the nominee to be his party's color, and then having the main challenger be green, and then the 3rd place candidate be the opposite party's color.
In accordance with past custom though, I suggest you make Dean be yellow, since he was the 4th place candidate. Yellow provides a better contrast than purple.

2004 Primary color assignments have changed. Also updated to official results (by county) for AZ, OK, DE, MO primaries. Added data for AZ, NH, DE, OK congressional districts. Don't have MO data by CD or official results in SC.

Dave,
Thanks for the change. It makes it a lot easier to tell who won what, although I feel I had been able to get it earlier.
Sincerely,

Purple and light red looks the same to me (I'm colorblind) so this makes it alot easier.

Most people think it means that you only see in black and white, which isn't the case, you just see fewer shades of colors than others do.

I don't think that, I knew what colourblind means. That's why I asked the question, since your previous post seemed to suggest that yours weren't that bad. Or are there different varieties, I don't know a lot about it. All I can really remember is that it's more common with men, due to the smaller number of genes we have.
