What if the conspiracy of the auto-makers to buy up and destroy the streetcar companies(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_American_streetcar_scandal ) flops and we see streetcars surviving in the United States past the 1930s into the present?. Basically we see the designers of levitton and the like instead of inventing purely auto-focused suburbs created a new round of streetcar suburbs?(a wikipedia link for those who don't know what I mean:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streetcar_suburb ). What are the effects both domestically(politically, culturally, economically) and abroad be of this?
