No by default. Why? Because this question is vague. Unless I know what sort of "lands" we're talking about I can't give any sort of answer because it could mean anything.

Yes, for no other reason than the federal government does not need to own DC.  Maryland could own the property and it'd be no big deal (and in fact much better)

I voted for the opposite option of what I wanted. Fortunately I enabled vote-changing. Smiley

Anyway, I voted yes. Unless the land is specifically being used to prevent a certain species from becoming extinct, I suspect it might be better used to further the cause of private ownership.

IMO This is a question akin to asking "Should government be small?" It's a shortsighted question that offers no specifics.

We shouldn't be saying "Should we get rid of federally owned lands?" But rather "What federally owned lands should we get rid of?" It's a complex issue that this poll greatly oversimplified.

I actually was thinking of a very specific idea in making it, that I guess didn't come across in the question.

If it doesn't need the land it should sell it but if it actually needs it there's nothing wrong with it having it or acquiring some other land.

Yes! The various federal land management agencies manage over a quarter of the land of the USA, a ridiculously high amount and at a cost of several billion dollars a year to taxpayers.

This. I am in favor of decommissioning overseas military bases and selling them, however.

I am generally neutral on this, as it depends on what land is being kept and what is being released.

Depends on the specific land in question of course.  We probably shouldn't sell the Grand Canyon to Chinese investors or the land under the Pentagon to the Iranians, but does the Federal govt really need to own/manage so many millions of acres of wasteland in Alaska and the Rockies?

Lean No. Public Lands give the poor and much of the middle class access to (if properly kept) unspoiled nature they would otherwise never see. Plus they help generate a lot of revenue a lot of the time from tourists, which might not happen if they were bought off by the elite.

On the other hand, some areas like ANWR should probably be open to corporations.

Um, that was an Exelon Power Plant and they're privately owned.. So I don't really see your point (maybe I'm missing something?). Although the anti-nuclear hysteria in this country is still misguided anyway.

I think he's referring to the marshland that is visible behind the plant.
