awkward wording, sorry, but it's an awkward concept that doesn't exist in the 'real' world.  when I am the last poster in a thread I feel as if I have contributed nothing.  does anyone else battle with these feelings of inadequacy?

Yes. I've been thinking this for years but never said anything.

YES!  Especially preceding poster threads.  I feel like no one wants to talk about me.

YES.  I've been worrying that the Forum thought of me as the "thread killer".

Wouldn't it suck to have the last post in this thread?

Yes!

Especially if you think you said something awkward/weird upon hindsight analyzing.

I tend to do that a lot in both real life and on forums.

I'm the only weird guy that thinks he "won" the thread if he got the last post in then?

(that's not universaly true, sometimes I feel the way you guys do.  Most of the time I don't even notice/care.)

yep, I'm afraid I killed the thread, or everyone was like "Ew, Harry posted, I'm not even going read that!" or something.

I actually like seeing my name in print, even if it isn't actually my real one, but I would hate it if I was the last person in one of those preceding poster threads. Watch as I am the last person to post here.

Absolutely, except in a case when I'm debating someone and I feel like I have shut them down...

This has yet to happen.

Yeah, and it happens to me a lot. I sometimes feel like I've killed a thread. But I secretly blame time zones.

YES.  I've been worrying that the Forum thought of me as the "thread killer".

You have to look at it the other way.  Your words were so golden and so apropos, that nothing else could be added.  And the rest of us were simply awestruck.  :-)

I hate it, but the epidemic isn't restricted to the forum - Facebook wall-to-walls, IM conversations, e-mails, even text messages. We all need the satisfaction of a response.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, but more commonly yes.

Generally I'm like what everyone else has said - that I've killed the thread or whatever. Sometimes (but rarely) I fell I've written a compelling argument in favour of my position, and when I see it as the last post in a thread I feel more like it's something nobody's going to argue on - which can feel a little satisfying (the reality is you're probably all putting your face in your hands and collectively screaming "Smid, that just doesn't even make sense: I can't argue with it because you're so wrong I wouldn't even know where to start!" but hey, at least it makes me feel all warm inside - which sucks in the heat of summer...)

Awww, dont worry, I give a damn! ^__^ *hug!*

And, as everyone else, I hate when this happens. I think its even worse when you think what you said was good, and then it just gets left in the dust.

For 5 days you were "the biggest loser EVER."  Be thankful that I'm saving you now.  Tongue

What bothers me even more is when I have the last post on a page (the 15th under my default settings).  So when someone posts after you, you are immediately knocked off of the most recent page.  Then you realize you would've had some more time to shine if three spots weren't taken up by Officepark mindlessly parotting the posts made before him.

Yes, I hate it.

I'm never sure if what I said was so profound no one can follow-up or if what I said was so stupid no one wants to follow it.  Wink  The later of course.
