If he runs, do you believe that New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo would defeat Governor David Paterson in the 2010 Democratic gubernatorial primary?

A further point, if Cuomo does defeat Paterson, will black voters be upset, and support the Democratic nominee in smaller numbers than usual in the election?

Please discuss.

perhaps, but it would hardly matter: a majority of whites in NY vote Democratic nowadays, and Republicans still have a Latino problem that's unlikely to go away in the next 2 years.

Cuomo could defeat him, depending on the financial situation in NY in 2010.  If that were to happen I seriously doubt Cuomo would have any problem with the African American vote in the General.

It's important to remember that Andrew Cuomo already had a failed primary where he attempted to upset the powers that be, and it's taken him a LONG time to get to where he is now, accepted by the establishment.  Cuomo is young enough that he can wait until after Paterson is over such that he'd likely be a shoe-in for the governor's mansion.

I mean, if Paterson shows severe weakness, Andy could go for it.

But it's not likely as of now.  Paterson may have weak approval ratings, but that's almost always not enough to sink against a primary opponent unless said primary opponent can stake out some sort of ideological ground.

I hope not. Fred Armisen's "impression" of Paterson on SNL is awesome.

Thanks to his conservatism and his ridiculous handling of Clinton's Senate seat, he's extremely vulnerable. I'd lean towards casting an unenthusiastic vote for Paterson in such a primary, I suppose.
