Some businessman, anyone?  I googled "Reid Challenger" and every result on the first page is about a leading challenger being indicted.

Is there any vulnerable incumbent without an eager challenger in the country (even Vitter has has an undeclared one)?

Every time Reid does something unpopular, said challenger could *raise money* nationwide and build name recognition in Nevada.

The AP has a good summary of why a candidate needs to emerge to receive nationwide funding, since Reid owns all of the fundraising machines within Nevada (at least Reid is hiring Begich's campaign manager, because Begich's win was so impressive):

By the way, apparently Reid used to have more personality:

Well Nevada is sort of like Zimbabwe in terms of politics. Getting safely onto the ballot is sometimes harder than winning on election day.

RE: Politics1, are there any sources about that?   Even if they have a super secret source, that still puzzles the premise of this thread, mainly that running early will vastly increase your name recognition and national fundraising capabilities.  If you're a Reid challenger you need to fundraise off of Reid, I don't get why no one is doing that this very day.

Yeah, you could get "taken care of" but if you're going to do it, it makes no sense to wait five months.

Politics1.com's Nevada page says Brian Krolicki is running.

Doesn't Politics1 just list every potential candidate, viable or not? They may not have edited him off the page since he was first added last year...

He's listed as an active candidate. That being said, his website is still about his run for Lt. Governor.

I'd love to see Reid gone, but that will only happen in the primary.  I don't see anyone in the Nevada GOP taking him out in the GE.

You have it reversed.  Unless the GOP funded the challenger, but I don't know why they would since having Reid as Majority Leader is far better for them than someone tougher like Durbin, Feinstein, or Schumer.

The primary candidate would get no local or national funding and would be shunned by the entire establishment.  I don't see that as remotely possible.  Reid votes pretty standard on Democratic issues - what will the challenger's ideological ground be?  Reid brings home the bacon to Nevada (the early primary schedule, working against Yucca Mountain, etc).

It'd be an interesting stunt, but, uh, yeah, no.   I think whoever wrote that is a fool who hopes just to make outlandish guesses until he's correct and can claim glory for calling it first -- I sympathize with that since I often do the same here on this forum Smiley

I've always thought Porter would run - though I thought it more likley before he lost his recent re-election bid, though.   Given the number of commercials he and Titus ran in 2008, Porter must have 100% name recognition in the Las Vegas metro portion of the state (which is about 70% of the population).

I mean, he has no reason not to run.  It's not like he has a job to lose.

I'm just surprised he hasn't declared and started raisin money off of Reid's fumbles.
