I see no reason why McAulliffe would be a good governor, his entire history is that he's one of the best fundraisers in the country.

I think the GOP picks up this governorship over Terry in the general.

People who would vote McDonnell over McAuliffe are fake Democrats...

Because you can't be a "real" Democrat and ever vote for someone ever with an (R) next to their name?

Now you're getting it. Tongue

But seriously, there's no reason for a liberal Democrat to vote for McDonnell.

Well, there is some possibility that McDonnell could be far more competent than Terry and that Terry winning could set a bad precedent of fundraisers beholden to other interests seeking higher office in states without contribution limits (Illinois & Virginia).  I don't mind that he's a Hillary whore so much that he's a political whore.

Are non-liberal Democrats "fake Democrats?"  I mean, I don't mind the term being applied to myself (I still have to change my registration), but I don't think the term "Democrat" means anything besides self-identification.

I think it's possible to be a sincere Democrat and still passionately believe that some people in your party should not achieve higher office.

Sure, but unfortunately politics is a zero sum game. Either your guy wins or the other guy wins. And no matter my guys faults, if the decision is between him and someone who I don't agree with at all, I'll vote for my guy, however grudgingly.

Is "agree with [on the issues]" the only thing that matters for a governor's race?  Nothing about biography, experience, bad precedents, of the future of the Democratic Party matters?  It's simply a laundry list of check boxes and party affiliation?

McDonnall is a genuinely horrible human being. So is Terry, but he is not malicious for the sake of maliciousness that McDonnell. The Democrats on this board putting him above Terry know nothing about Virginia, and don't care in the least about the citizens of the Commonwealth.

With that:

1. Deeds
2. McAuliffe
3. Moran
4. McDonnell

Considering McAuliffe's overall record of competance he could easily end up being a Democratic version of Bob Taft, wiping out all the gains made in the state over the last few year.
