Wouldn't it be like...

1. Barack Obama
2. George W. Bush
3. John McCain
4. John Kerry

ect..

I would like to see the list totalling votes from all elections that a candidate ran in. It would be interesting to see how FDR & Nixon stack up in that comparison.

They say you do your best thinking in the shower.

If so, then it is quite unfortunate to be you.

All-Time Top 10 (From what I can tell...)
1. Richard Nixon 113,060,650
2. George W. Bush 112,500,720
3. Franklin Roosevelt 103,500,786
4. Ronald Reagan 98,358,702
5. Bill Clinton 92,309,931
6. George Bush 87,991,147
7. Jimmy Carter 76,311,996
8. Dwight Eisenhower 69,654,709
9. Barack Obama 69,456,898
10. John McCain 59,934,814

Obama should easily be number one after 2012, win or lose.

It just goes to show how quickly the voter base is growing that Nixon in three elections just barely beat Bush in two elections.

Or that Nixon, who lost one of his three elections and won another by only a hair [in the PV], beat FDR, who won all of his four in landslides.

Furthermore, the one that he won narrowly saw George Wallace get 13% of the vote. Because of that, Nixon's vote share was rather unimpressive.
