Billboard Quarantine Act

Recognizing that highway billboards are a form of visual pollution scaring the landscape of Atlasian highways, One Billion Dollars is hereby appropriated for the following purposes:

  (i)    To secure visual easements along Altasian federal highways in which the posting of any commercial signage is prohibited.

(ii)    To plant trees between Atlasian federal highways and billboards so that the tree foliage camouflages such billboards from the view of occupants of motor vehicles on such highways.

I know, I can't believe it's been going for nearly five years.

$1 billion dollars? That's rather a lot for something rather superfluous.

Well, we could cut it down to 500 million. That is really small change for a bill with national scope. Billboards are evil. They have no redeeming social merit. Smiley

I don't remember seeing many billboards along highways where I live. Is there a huge billboard infestation in Orange County or something?

The infestation is more manifest in the desert, but there are some of the excrescences in the more down market zones of OC in the inland flat zones. In my town, they are absolutely banned.

If I understand this bill correctly it seems to go agaienst the free market and though I'm not exactly an exonomic right-winger I think that needs to be preserved and will most likely vote nay.

Nah, it is just purchasing a public good - landscape seen from our highways as God intended it, free from the "spoilation" of billboards.
