Somebody has already correctly said that the absentee booth should have been opened 4 days ago, on last Friday.

This is a major problem folks....WTF?

Where is our SoFA?

Very symbolic of the state of Atlasia in general.

Upon further legal review, I don't think this will pose too much of a problem concerning the validity of the election.

If any voter will be unable to vote in a federal election during the time allotted, he or she may request to absentee vote at any time between the end of the filing deadline for candidates and the beginning of the election. The Senate may by appropriate legislation determine the procedure for absentee voting.

That leads me to assume that it isn't constitutionally required that an absentee voting booth exists unless one or more voters specifically request to vote absentee.

To the best of my knowledge....but Earl would know it better, if he WERE HERE!....no such request has happened.

But I still think this is a pretty stupid thing, and that it says a lot about the current state of Atlasian politics. I would hope that we could at least hold our general election properly...even if we have an insufficient number of candidates for almost every office.

Earl had been doing a good job. I didn't really expect this...

Who opens the booth if the SoFA disappears?

If you look at precedent (i.e. my two disasters) usually the DSoFA has taken over.  Do we have one?

I don't think so.

I feel as if Inks was the last one to hold the office, but I think he default resigned when he became Governor.

As I said, legally speaking, it won't be necessary unless someone clearly requests an absentee ballot, and I hope nobody does....

where is Earl, BTW?

I guess it's quite appropriate, considering how much Inks railed against non-needs-based absentee voting.

The constitution doesn't say an absentee booth has to be opened.

He could request one. Then if he doesn't get to cast it he can sue.

Does anybody have contact to Earl? He does need to come around....imagine if he's not there on this Friday to start the general election.

Couldn't either you or Bgwah open it on Friday if necessary?

^ I would be willing to do it, though I must admit I'm not sure if it would be legal. Tongue

Couldn't you just appoint a DSoFA or can only Earl appoint such a subordinate?

I wouldn't think of opening the booth myself due to legal reasons. I'd advise the President against taking such action as well.

Senators: how fast could you confirm a new SoFA should I appoint one?

Actually, it would seem that the absentee voting booth is required. The use of the word "shall" would indicate that the establishment of the absentee voting booth is a legal obligation.

Getting one in that fast would be hard.

First you would have to fire Earl first right? Then you got another problem there is a Senator missing too. SPC has been missing since Friday. Plus Al just resigned from the Senate so there is no PPT either.

I didn't catch that earlier at all, I'm afraid. I apologize.

Well now we do have a major problem.

Whenever possible, the Secretary of Forum Affairs, or the Deputy Secretary of Forum Affairs, shall be the administrator of the voting booth. If both shall be absent or unable to administer the voting booth, then the President shall designate an executive officer to do so instead.

Concerning the administration of the actual voting booth, so the President could apparently appoint Meeker, Me or Hashemite to administer the voting booth.

But the absentee problem definitely remains. At this point, I'm not exactly sure what happens now.
