This thread is for sharing random thoughts that aren't important enough to warrant threads of their own. Indulge yourself.

What truly evil man is responsible for the prominence of the variable y in mathematics? The letter's "tail" gets in the way of the numbers and symbols on the line beneath it. And why dx and dy, rather than Δx and Δy?

How long until paragraph citations finally overthrow old-fashioned page numbers? Surely our digital age has made the transition inevitable.

It's a shame that well-produced books are so rare. Down with cloth; up with casewrap.

Delta is for non-infinitesimal differences, rather than differentials.

(Well, also for other things.  Actually, the only thing I can think of at the moment is the diagonal: Δ(X)={(x,x): x ∈ X} ⊆ X × X.)

If you are driving in the left lane and you are not activly passing somebody, you are an asshole. Period.  (obviously if you are behind somebody else, that person is the asshole....but you will quickly become the asshole as soon as the first asshole leaves)

Of course, but that doesn't answer the question. Why?

America's problems and faults are manifold and various, but I believe the root of them all is the use of paper instead of a sprayer for cleaning the nethers.

Pennsylvania bagels are inferior to New Jersey ones.  Actually, a lot of food in PA is inferior to the NJ equivalent.

In honor of being named the first official Forum Republican leader, I want a "pointy" statue like Margaret Thatcher's...

My band's first album was way better than our second in every way except for me. It's embarrassing to listen to myself from back then, though everyone else sounds great. It's the other way around for every other member (at least the ones who stuck around for Animal Farm).

I hope that someday, two hundred years from now, people that don't know who you are question your sexuality.

Deltas are used for infinitesimals in non-standard calculus.
