Oh please god, please make the stupid stop.

The call by some right wing leaders for rebellion and for the military to refuse the commander in chief’s orders is joined by Chuck Norris who claims that thousands of right wing cell groups have organized and are ready for a second American Revolution. During an appearance on the Glen Beck radio show he promised that if things get any worse from his point of view he may “run for president of Texas.” The martial artist/actor/activist claims that Texas was never formally a part of the United States in the first place and that if rebellion is to come through secession Texas would lead the way.

BUT. Kay Bailey Hutchinson wants to become governor!

Sure, as long as we remain on good terms.  Of course it should take a very large majority of Texas voters to get there.

edit-that is my opinion.  If the US govt/military felt differently I'd still be against it, but I'd still fight for my country against them too.

You realize your state is in a huge budget crisis and will fall apart completely in the event of a depression. My state, full of mindless drunk jesus loving hicks though it is, is best positioned by far to handle the current crisis.

In fact, if we did separate from the Union, I have no doubt we'd become massively more prosperous then we are now. The President of the RoT need only say "Dear everyone, Texas corporate tax is now 10% (5% whatever) and the mass taxodus from the US would begin.

A silly notion of course, but enough of your stupid posturing about how you despise the south, please.

Not to mention you've never visited to know the reality of the situation (no your road trip thru rural Appalachia and the Carolinas to get to DisneyWorld when you were 11 does not count)

Try coming to Austin Texas and see what you think, there are backwater people in every state. Just because Miss. and Louisiana are unpleasant, doesn't mean you can blanket everyone.

Norris has the wrong strategy.  He should come to my home state (North Dakota) and start a movement to leave the union from there.  We have just as many backwater people (without the water, of course) as anywhere, and we have tons of nuclear missles to boot.  If North Dakota left the nation, we'd be the third largest nuclear power on earth.  You see, Chuck, you have to think through these things a little more...  Smiley

Of course there are backwater people in every state, TJN. You are talking to someone who lives in upstate New York! The south just has a higher percentage of them than every other part of the country does.

Texas can leave on the condition that is takes Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee with it.

Haha, I'd love to see Chuck Norris and friends in an interment camp.  Alas, it'll never happen to honkeys.

Beck’s gone absolutely nuts. He just had a show detailing what he sees as the worst case scenarios of the next four years, and he and some of the “experts” on the show seem to think kidnappings for ransom are going to become just as common in NYC as they are in Mexico. And apparently the police will be ineffective, so those that can afford it will have to start hiring private security and living in gated communities to avoid the rampant crime wave. Now, I suppose that could be  a worst case scenario, but that it could happen in the next few years I find rather unlikely. And the zest in which it was being discussed made me wonder how many of these people already have there shelters ready in preparation for it.

All this secession talk makes me uncomfortable. We all need to step back and allow cooler heads to prevail.  I doubt that will happen though, but this extremist rhetoric is hurting more then it helps the situation.

On a side note, I feel like I’m losing any Libertarian credentials I had with this appeal for compromise, ha ha. Ah well.

Chuck Norris and Glenn Beck should have a baby, and that baby should run for President of Batsh**t Insane.

I remember when the nutz were afraid that the tyrant Clinton was destroying America.

It went as far as Timothy McVeigh killing 150 some odd people in Oklahoma.

People like Chuck Norris and Glen Beck may make a lot of money yammering about the government but there is always somebody who doesn't understand that wrestling is fake and goes overboard.

Think I'm going to find a copy of that old movie Return of the Dragon just for the pleasure of watching Bruce Lee kick Chuck Norris' ass.

You don't remember that whole anti-government militia thing?

UN troops waiting to take over America?

Rep Helen Chenowith (R-Id) in cammo?

But the surrounding states would be swarmed with right-wing Anglos fleeing "Mexico," and we'd be no better off politically.

I think Texas would rather stay.   It has it's share of nutcases, but there are a lot of decent people there too.

How about Norris leave America - he can go join any tinpot dictatorship he wants (or start his own, just not with out territory)
