YAY FOR SIMMONS! If he aint running, than hopefully Blumenthal will just go ahead and run against Dodd, and than we can start getting a Senator who actually... you know... does something.

Blumenthal  is ready to take on Lieberman, and has been preparing for that, although it's in 2012.  I don't think he wants his schtick to be the CT primarying Democrat.  Although if he could beat Dodd I would be so down.

But yes, Dodd needs to retire ASAP.  He's like our non-crazy Bunning who is just in trouble because he's corrupt.  I have more on that in the Congressional board that no one cares about

First, remember that it's still really, really early to be even seriously considering polls. Around this time time in the previous election cycle, the polls showed Elizabeth Dole crushing Kay Hagan in North Carolina and look what happened there. Secondly, I'm not naive to the fact that Dodd is somewhat vulnerable. A lot can certainly change between now and November 2010 but if the Democratic tide is still flowing, I find it extremely unlikely for a Republican to win a statewide contest against a well known incumbent in a blue state. But if the DSCC (and perhaps even Dodd himself) feels like he is in trouble, I'd suggest he retire and Democrats try to get Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) to run. I like this lady. She seems a little cuckoo when watching her speak on C-SPAN but she really does have passion for politics and has been a strong advocate for women's rights as a leading figure in the pay equity bill. I think she'd be a good replacement for Dodd should he not run in 2010 and could win.

The good news is that Pat Toomey will be occupied in Pennsylvania so Simmons might be able to escape a challenge in the primary.

Only if Dodd retires, surely. Blumenthal wouldn't run a primary challenge. (Dodd retiring doesn't seem far-fetched, though. I don't think he's even made a statement regarding 2010 yet.)

If Dodd and Simmons are the candidates it does indeed seem possible.  If the GOP candidate isn't Simmons, then I agree with you, which is frankly quite sad that a majority of voters would still take Chris Dodd after all the scandal surrounding him.  As they say, you get what you vote for.  Idiots.
