Johnson/Humphrey vs. Rockefeller/Morton(1964)

Ok...Let's say Rockefeller is able to squeeze out a narrow victory over Goldwater in the California Primary and then goes in to win the highely divided convention. In an attempt to heal those wounds, Rockefeller picks a Southerner... the Moderate Senator Thurston Morton as a running mate. How does LBJ run against such a idealogical equal, except for Rocky calling for more law and order? Would it still be a landslide? What would the south do with two liberal tickets?(I think they would stick with LBJ with him being a Southerner)...Please discuss

Johnson wins.  No Republican could have defeated Johnson in 1964.

However, with Rockefeller the Republicans do not lose all the traditionally Republican states as they did with Goldwater.

I believe Rockefeller would have won in 1968 had he been the nominee.

I just don't see even Rocekfeller getting it that close...here is what I think the most plausible Scenario's...I also think with two liberals on the ticket, that LBJ might get his feet cut away from him, If a staunch segregationist of the likes of Orval Fabus of Arkansas decided to take the dixiecrats away...He could in this scenario

1. Most likely scenario

Lyndon B. Johnson/Hubert H. Humphrey: 312 Electoral Votes
Nelson A. Rockefeller/Thruston Morton: 116 Electoral Votes
Orval Fabus/Robert Byrd: 110 Electoral Votes

2. Best Case Scenario for Rocky... He fails to reach the necessary 269 electoral votes, throwing the election there, where LBJ wins.

Lyndon B. Johnson/Hubert H. Humprhey: 221 Electoral Votes
