Open primaries tend to result in more moderate candidates and more competitive elections.  The latter is nice because it makes it easier to successfully primary the corrupt/establishment/ineffective establishment-types that you could never do in a general election.

Caucus.

There the voters know something about the candidates.

Closed primaries. They allow for all party members to choose the candidates they feel best represent their platform.

Open Primaries. It actually makes the 'silent majority' (moderates, independents, etc.) votes count for something.

Agreed. I prefer open primaries for these reasons.

More democracy is (usually) a good thing.

Considering your agenda why would you want the 'true conservatives' controlling things in your party even more?

I voted for caucus.  I've gotten to participate in two, and it was great.  I'm sort of a big fan of the run-off election and the caucus process sort of allows that.  The community aspect of debate and discussion in addition to physically being accountable for the person you support is phenomenal.  I feel that participation does seem to indicate some sort of awareness for the candidate.  You aren't going to literally stand up and be counted as a supporter for someone you do not know anything about.

Ballots?  PSH!

Semi-closed primaries out of these options but I prefer the caucus system.

Uh, but the caucus system is one of the options Ithe last one listed).  So, if you really prefer the caucus system, change your vote to support it.

Whatever way the parties want to do it.  Ultimately, primaries aren't meant to be the most democratic elections, and I'm fine with that.
