79 of the 155 members of the Assembly for French Citizens Abroad will be up for election this spring—specifically those representing North America, South America, and Africa. The representatives serve six-year staggered terms, and half of the Assembly is up for election every three years. Registered voters may vote at their consulate on June 7; alternatively, they will be able to mail in their ballots or vote online between May 20 and June 4.

Africa and the Americas are divided into 27 constituencies. The vote is first by the post in constituencies with under three representatives, and proportional representation in those with three or more. Candidate lists should be announced on April 13.

Old well-off French ladies with nothing to do at home has always been my idea about this crap.

In Riyadh, the UFE and ADFE organized various events like going to some chocolate factory or to camel races. UFE meetings were so stereotypically wealthy old French people.

On a side note, my parents probably have the right to vote in this. But they won't.

From the looks of it, this assembly seems to have the authority to pick a few members of the French Senate... and that's pretty much it.

There are 12 old fools representing French citizens abroad. Unlike all other seats, they're renewed every election in thirds or something (half, now, with the new system IIRC).

Of the 12, 3 are Socialists, 8 UMP, and 1 UMP dissident. Alternatively; 3 ADFE, 2 RFE, 7 UFE.
