Ok...Let's say Jesse Helm's "Draft Buckley" attempt succeded, as the Senator was able to deny Ford from clinching the nomination by the first ballot. After several rounds, enough Reagan Delegates finally go to Buckley and the New York senator is able to clinch the nomination. However to placate the moderate wing of the party, he choose the popular Tennesee Senator Howard Baker as his running mate. The Ticket is seen by many as the strongest Anti-Watergate one the Party could have mustered.
So how does the ticket of James L. Buckley and Howard Baker Jr. fare against Jimmy Carter?
