I decided to poll this. If there is enough interest, I'll do another one with subgenres in the future. Also, I included an option of other, but please tell me about any that I forget so I can include them in a future topic.

Voted "jazz" but it varies with my mood. My predominant playlists on my computer are jazz, opera, choral and "The Friday and Saturday Night Playlist" (which is comprised of various Ministry of Sound cds). Jazz, Opera and F&S are the ones I play almost every time, choral is a little less frequent.

You forgot to include Gospel/Christian music, which is my favorite.

Well, I like:

1) New Wave
2) Punk
3) 'electronic'

...in that order.  I guess they all fit under 'pop' on your list?  Or maybe punk fits under rock, and the other two under pop.  Anyway, I dislike a lot of rock.

In any case I'm hopelessly out of date.  I like little old odds and ends from here and there - like bosso nova or that new Brazilian easy listening sounding stuff.. or silly asian new wave.  Lately I discovered that some of the 'new wave' music from Germany is more fun than anything from the english speaking world.. who'd have thought.  Wonders of youtube.

I don't own a radio or a tape recorder.

Electronic actually is on the list. As for Punk, it can be either rock or pop. I don't know enough about new wave to categorize it as anything, though I can just look it up on Wikipedia.

Neue Deutsche Welle is awesome. Fred vom Jupiter...I'm just saying...

Anyway, for the poll, I guess pop or rock. What's the exact difference anyway?

Pop tends to label lighter, more recent music whereas rock tends to label heavier, older music (particularly the sorts of stuff that influenced the metal movement, though also contemperaneous bands such as AC/DC & Pink Floyd).
